Default lexan questions

Can you tint lexan? I was told no by a tinter. Should I buy the scratch resistant stuff is it that much better?

There is another company that makes some stuff that is scratch resistant and does not haze a light yellow like lexan.
Can't remember the name.

Also curious if you can tint the stuff.

I think it's called speedglass. It's not cheap. If I remember correctly if you do all of your windows with the thinnest glass they make you save about 68lbs.

you can tint lexan however it will just spot. If you want to do this yourself just pick up some MR10 lexan, its fairly cheap and it does not yellow and it is somewhat scratch resistant.

You can also buy the lexan with a smoke tint to it. I use the smoke on all the windows except the windsheild.

.

Get the scratch proof, trust me.

2007 nhra rule 7.8 all windows must be clear without any tint or coloring except stock tinted safety glass per state requirements. (short version)

It's listed as a general reg only, nothing about ET is mentioned.

Is that for fast cars only? I am going to see if vfn carries the smoked stuff.

Yup, got mine last year (Late August), managed to race with it about 4 times then tranny went out. The fit was great! Just needs some minor trimming to fit properly. You will also have to black out the top, bottom and sides of it. First you have to take off the scratch resistant coating then take a can of spray paint and paint it. Of course you will need to mask off the areas that don't need the paint.

You can protect your lexan by applying layers of "tear-offs" just like the Nascar teams use. I've heard over 10+ layers can be applied.

Ok, I did a quick search and found this:

We normally use Percys scratch resistant lexan. I have it in a early Nova with the side windows still rolling up and down and it has been very durable and does not scratch easy.

If you look at your factory glass it will have a black section around the perimeter, this is where the glue is that holds it in. The lexan does not have the black section, so you need to tape it off where it stays clear and scuff the coating off the lexan for the black paint to stick around the outer edge too cover up the glue section.

Is the smoke available from Percy's?
