Default car is going fast.. now i can't stop at the end!

last night i was doing all i could to come down from 127 or so.. i get the abs inop light with the hoosiers even with the p-brake up one click..
i guess my local track is shorter on the other end than most but im pumping my pedal like mad and im literally barely makeing the turn around..

i dont want an autocross setup and i dont want something that wont fit under the pro stars.. but what have you fellows found that works best for drag racing.. right now im of course all stock with autozone front rotors and vgx front pads (oe rotors and pads still on back at 75k lol)

thanks in advance.

Hey MM, I got sure stops front and rear with Hawk pads, Speed inc sells the Cheap, I think around 400 for all 4 rotors and 120 for the pads, They work GREAT, and the pads are low dust. I have had my fronts on for about 1 1/2 years with no probs.Rears for about 6 months and they are 1/4 the $$$ as the bear ect!! I recomend them!! call Speed for price and you will have them in a few days!!

A parachute. I have a hard time making the turn as well and I'm only trapping 121mph. I'm running Autozone rotors and Raybestos ceramic pads. They are fine for the street, but they struggle at the track.

I think steel lines might help. I seem to get a lot of brake fade coming down from 121mph. I don't know if that's possible or not, but the brake pedal is way closer to the floor than normal. Stopping power is greatly reduced too. At least you can engine brake a bit MM if necessary.

Wow Im shocked your having problems slowing down at Norwalk Smokinhawk. My car has the factory brakes on it and I had PLENTY of room to stop.Sounds like you have something wrong.I think that track has a very long shutdown area, compared to others I've been to.MM you might want to go back to factory stuff it worked for me.

i never had any problems stopping with 132mph trap speeds when i had an LS1 brake setup on the car. stock rotors and origional GM pads. with the LT1 brakes it was kind of scary.

i now have Strange drag brakes on both front and rear. stops VERY good

Be sure you leave your clutch engaged so your engine will help slow you along with your brakes. In my case with my automatic, when I hit the brake my converter disengages so I use my lock up switch to keep the converter engaged to the engine.

Hmm I have no problems @~130mph with my Aerospace brakes, and had no @~130problems in my old LT1 with stock brakes. Maybe you're staying on the gas too long? I race at a short shutdown area track too (Carlsbad) and can make the turn most of the time. Just stand on the brakes!

i thought norwalks shut down time was shorter then any other track ive been to.

also im on the orignal pads on 65k miles so far. so at least i need new pads.

lol i dont want to make the turn MOST of the time.

i am on the brakes hard, but with normal size front tires, i loose my abs which hurts the shut down capability itself.

my track is very bumpy on the shut down, and short, when i pump the brakes if i hit it at just the wrong time ill bottom out on one of the bumps.. which sucks!

Sounds like your in trouble. Short track + bumpy stopping area + high trap speed = DANGER!

revisited: going to make a purchase today as the car is heading back to my coast

plan is power slot prostops (dimpled and slotted) in addition to the hawk hps pads.. shouldnt have any cracking issues with just dimples eh?

comments concerns? i see the powerslots/hps pads to be the most commonly liked as far as high speed stopping and fitting under 1. the budget and 2. the 15" wheels

i figure the dimples in the prostops will help just get a touch more agressive bite from the pad than slots alone.. will order tomorrow.. whatcha think?

here are the prostops from thunder who will get the sale

Ive raced an 8 second dragster at norwalk and i hardly have to get on the brakes that much to stop. Where are you letting out at? if you cant stop at norwalk dont go to any other track....

I think you need new pads bad.

I have Strange drag brakes and stops are no problem.

Coach

PS. you might want to check to see where you are getting off the gas at the top end of the track.

i have the powerstops front and rear with earls' stainless lines and hawk pads..car has massive braking power, i like the setup.

i dunno, i was able to slow down every time a few years ago at GLD from 126 MPH when I was cam/boltons only on the gun(tnt kit) with stock pads and rotors with like 25K miles on them..it was a stretch but I did it

You ran the car at a track last nite? What did it run and in what trim and on what tires?

I am contemplating Strange brakes for the front, I anticipate going over 140mph consistently.
