Default battery box for relocation

Planning on moving the battery to the spare tire compartment. Can I use a Plastic box with a vent or does it have to be metal of some kind? If so where is the best place to get a metal box?
Thanks

I bought my metal battery box on ebay. Mine doesn't seal up the battery in any way, so I put in the NHRA-mandated .038 Aluminum firewall.

If you use a moroso battery box, which is a sealed plastic box you are fine. it just has to be ventetd to the outside of the car via a hose, which can be done thru the drain grommits, etc.etc.

^ +1. Moroso is the only legal plastic box. If there is no firewall divider between the batt and the driver compartment then a metal box is mandatory (excluding moroso's). If there is a metal firewall then any plastic box is deemed legal. What is the thickness of your firewall you made? -Mark

Ah. good to know. I had summits cheap plastic box before I went with Taylor made.... I got a warning when I first went racing with it. I guess cause I was slow or slower back then they didn't care much. -Mark

can't get the "cheap" one...need the sealed/vented one.

still cheaper than moroso though

I just have a fundamental issue putting a battery in a highly conductive aluminum box

Per the summit link I posted. Needs to be the sealed/vented box though...not their cheapy box you can find elsewhere on their site...

Drilling the battery box for cable and vent tube entry is required. NHRA and IHRA approved when installed according to the sanctioning bodies rules. Inside dimensions are approximately: L- 10.75 in.; W - 8.5 in.; H- 9 in.

Ok, I know its a month old but anyways............ I don't care about money, no I am not rich but I want to do it once and right. I want to put it in the fender well and have a red top optima. What battery box fits there and is NHRA legal? Thanks and btw I've searched the living **** out of this and seems this hasn't been answered yet unless a custom made box.

I got the summit box, exactly the same as the moroso as stated.

However, it does NOT fit in the spare tire location.
