Default IPhone Owners: Drag Related - DA Calc

I have started working on a little program for the IPhone and wondered what you guys thought of this...

Basically you enter your zipcode/location and your track information for your pass... then the program grabs the local data (Weather Underground seems to have the most relevant data..working on this) and generates the DA (using the formula posted on the Great Lakes Dragway site).. then it can apply the NHRA calculation to your times and show it on the screen. Possibly have it store a history of passes and if I can figure it out a picture of the slip.

Thoughts? I know DA Calculations are not a 'perfect' representation of what you run but the DA is legit and it might be fun to see what you 'might' do in better weather.

The only wrong thing about using reported weather info from weather services is that the baro is already corrected for sea level. For example: at 3000' feet up the weather service will report a baro of 30.02, while the sea level baro will be 30.10. When actually the baro at 3000' is more like 27.70. BIG difference. What you need is the actual baro for your location, which is not posted or reported on weather reports. For that you need a weather station. Unless you really don't care about the true DA and just want a number.

Really? Didn't know that... hmm.. that puts a kink in the plans. EDIT: looks like its a standard to make the correction... I am checking with Wunderground to see if I can get uncorrected readings.

Gah I started this thing off thinking it would be 'easy' haha.

I'd rather just buy a personal weather station. But thats just personal preference as I bracket race a lot.

Even though the baro is corrected its still decent data if you are looking to compare performance on different days at the same tracks or for bracket racing if you build an ET database. My weather station always shows about 500-1000' feet higher DA due to the non corrected barometer.

Hmm.. well I will push forward with it and see what happens... I probably won't make it through Apples application process anyways but I thought it would be a fun little tool to play with.

Sounds great man. Thanks for the hard work and thinking about this for an app. I think it will be cool either way.
