02 SS M6 : Forged 346cid + EPS 222/226 + PRC 5.3 = 428rwhp/410rwtq
The plan was to achieve the maximum street manner with stock idle for a real street car that will never see the track
I want to be anonymous so that's why I will not tell where I'm from or where I got my car tuned so no one can catch me when I say it is bolt-ons car but still wanna share with you my experiance
Old Experiance with Big cams in my previous two F-Bodies M6s
I was the one who always going with " Bigger is Always Better "
I was having big cams ( 240ish/243 heads ) in my previous two F-Bodies M6. And what a life of bucking and surging I got when drive them in the weekends around the city here
I like 3.42 gearing in the street which give me a good trap of speed while spraying in 4th so the drivability was really bad since I didn't go with 3.73s or 4.10s
The light I saw with small EPS cam in my 02 SS
I didn't even think of small cam, but since I bought my 02 SS and wanna change a little. I go ahead and contact Patrick G to spec me a cam that meet my needs and he advised to go with EPS 222/226 .59?/.59? 115lsa
Geoff @ EPS was very helpfull and shipped the cam faster .. after 2 weeks which is good for custom grind cam
Then I go ahead and contact John & Jon @ TSP about forged rod/pistons that will let my engine drink 150-175 shot safely along with a good heads. since I want it a badget friendly they advised to go with PRC 5.3 with comp 918 single springs milled to 59cc, eagle forged 6.125 rods and mahle 3.898" forged pistons flat top -4 to achieve 11.1 ~ 11.2 CR
Got the engine assembled and droped it on the car
More details :-
- FTP 85mm Lid
- Z06 MAF
- NW 92mm TB
- Out of the box FAST 92
- TSP 1 7/8
- Custom Y-Pipe
- SLP Exhaust
- Powerband Underdrive Pulley
- SVO 30lbs
- Comtiec Head Gaskets 0.040"
- 7.375 Pushrods
The result is : 428 rwhp / 410 rwtq ( Dyno Results in Post # 3)
My Behaivor After couple of pulls and drivability test
The drivability was just like stock and better, I can feel the power in any RPM
It just rev faster !, maybe the 6.125 rod help in this along with PRC 5.3 that help the low and mid range hp/tq. Not only the drivability was great but also I surprised that this is faster than the previous F-Bodies while I didn't expected that from smallish cam !!! it pulls harder than big cams that I had with 3.42 in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th !
A close friend of mine said that it is too low dyno numbers for H/C forged 346cid ! but when I said to him that the cam is lower than 228 in duration, lower than .600 in lift and 115lsa !!! .. hands down
Future Mods
Upgrade the heads to PRC 215, send my fast intake to be mamofied and just keep the great cam ever in
Sorry for the long thread but I really wanna people to think and ask before going with big cam in their street cars. The cam in our engines is the brain of it .. if you choose the wrong one, you will be the slow one !

it may not be a raging screaming dyno queen but i bet its drivability is second 2 none. very interested in seeing the prc215 results
Hows the idle of that cam ?

I have a 2002 z06 and i only have Blackwing, slp loudmouths and monster stage3 clutch with light flywheel. But i have a 224-230 .588/.581 114, 25% UD pulley, ported throttle body, longtubes, svo 30's and what not going in in the next month or two just getting the last few parts together. So i will have some decent numbers fairly soon.

Yes, it is not what most members will like. But I'm really happy that it made 400+ rwhp / 400+ rwtq at 5250 rpm.
It idles just like stock
