Thumbs up 98 Heads/Cam LS1 Dyno

Got the car a much needed tune up. It's been down 20-30 horsepower for years. Stock engine 90k miles.

New NGK plugs, low milage stock rocker arms (after contact with valve cover), gold dual valve-springs, Catch can, Replaced 14 year old granatelli MAF with a new Zo6 MAF, put on a 98mm lid and new filter. Sealed up the Fast Toys ram air properly. Got the car tuned.

Previous mods. (14 years ago test car)
Ported stage 3 5.3 heads, 11:1 comp, big valves 2.10 / 1.60 I believe.
229/229 cam, can't remember the rest .578lift?
LS6 intake
Under-drive pulley
Ported TB
Mac headers, mac cats, (1 cat gutted by speed bump)
Magnaflow cat back
stock injectors, pump, 91 octane
tuned by New Era Performance @ Agoura Hills, CA

Pretty happy with the way it runs now. I know there is room for improvement but unless something breaks the car is done.
A brand new 2016 SS auto pulled 384rwh on this dyno.

In retrospect ideally the car would have gears and a bigger cam so I could spin it to 7000+ when road racing but ... like I said it's done

Talking

432/415 torque is nothing to sneeze at! My 29,000 mile 98 SS is just begging for power like this. Congrats man!

That dyno graph is almost a textbook example of what a good "moderate and optimized" heads/cam/intake build should deliver. Peak tq right at 4800, peak HP near 6300. Very smooth looking TQ and HP graphs with great average power

The cam choice with no split is interesting, but it looks like it matches up to your heads nicely. Given the broad TQ curve, I'm guessing you have a decent LSA and then some advance? Something like 114+4?

That looks like a very fun car to drive. Nicely Done

Sounds like a nice combo you made that power on stock 98 injectors what was the duty cycle?

Thanks everyone.

I actually bought some ford red tops 36lbs at ls1 fuel pressure but they were not needed. The car was running pig rich when I brought it over with the Z06 maf and after leaning it out the injectors were around 90-95% duty cycle with the stock 28lbs. Oh yeah the car also has a Monster stage 2 with the lightweight flywheel. I'm sure that frees up a little power as well.

Found info on the cam as well. Total lift with stock rockers is 0.578-inch, and the lobe separation is 114 degrees. Not sure about advance but makes sense. Good call Darth!

Excellent numbers and congratulations on sorting the car out.

The 229/229 .578 lift 114 LSA cam that was popular 14 years ago on the west coast was the Morgan Motorsports 229/229 thede was a v1 and v2 version. Is that possibely the cam you have?

Great numbers. Look at that torque. Do you run it at Fontana?

Yes sir it is the v1, MMS used this car to do testing and such before they went out of business.

I actually only use this car for road racing. Lot's of suspension work on it.
I want to take it to Famoso someday just for fun. Last time it was at the drag strip was at LACR long long ago, with no traction it was running high 12's@115+ 3000+ elevation. I miss that track!

Alex, sweet Good to see another MMS 229 cam'd car.
My 91 RS has a MMS 229v2, I'm very happy with it.
