Default E39 M5 vs LS1

Which is faster? Assuming both are stock. I'm talking LS1 F-body. What about a stock LS1 C5 vs a stock E39 M5?

Both are solid low 13 second cars. I would give the edge to the C-5 from a dig and maybe the M5 from a roll. They are geared more for top end.

huh, the c5 should be able to break 12's. f-bods run low 13's and the c5 is lighter. and i personally give the c5 the advantage from a roll too, its very aerodynamic and they run damn good up top.

That generation M5 is governed at 155mph... I'm curious what they would run un-corked.

Edit: Just looked it up, and I've seen anywhere from 178-189mph without the limiter. Not too bad for a ~3900lb sedan, and anything in that range would handily out-gun a C5.

Stock M5s with the limiter removed will do over 180. I've seen 186 reached.

Mine dynoed 343/334 bone stock. Haven't re-dynoed it with my mods. But they don't gain much from bolt ons. I wouldn't bother to run it in the 1/4. But a high 12 wouldn't be hard to pull off.

Heard of quite a few running in the high 12s stock. Most of them run in the 13.0-13.3. Which is exactly comparable to a stock f body. From a roll I would say M5. From a dig, probably fbody.

I messed around with an M5 on the highway when my car was trapping 111 mph at the time. We were pretty damn even and I was maybe slightly puling him at 100+. I don't know if he was stock or not though. I would say stock vs. stock the M5 beats the Fbody and is even with the C5.

I've always loved those M5's for some reason.
