Default Help Finishing Paint Job

I just had my hood, bumper and fender repainted by one of my buddies back on July 28th.... Primer, Basecoat and Clearcoat, 3-5 coats of each. Looks great. It was done in a garage, so there is some over spray that landed on top of the paint (poor ventilation).

Anyways, skip to the point. I don't know how to wet sand / polish / buff. I was wondering if someone in the area could help lol. I have all the stuff I think. I have 2000 grit sand paper, polish and a orbital buffer. I keep asking my friend, he works every weekend and doesn't have time. It's been two months... tired of waiting. Orange peel is ugly.

I can meet you somewhere in Reading, PA or somewhere close by.

Water and sand paper, it really is pretty easy. Just stay with 2000 or above paper and you should be fine. If the over spray is base coat, just stop when your water isn't turning the base coat color. Unless the over spray is really bad, it should be pretty easy to get back to the clear and just polish. If you have a porter cable, you probably wouldn't even need wet sanding.

I think the over spray is pretty bad...

In the garage that we were painting it, after he finished the coats, we would open the door and your eyes would tear walking in.......

What's a port cable??

You'll never learn until you jump in and do it. Use some lightly soapy water, 2000-2500 grit paper and sand lightly, you can always sand more if you see it didn't do enough. As noted before, stay off the edges and rinse constantly. Try to avoid circular motion. A gentle back and forth with one direction is best.

Yeah I know, but, I don't want to practice on my car... I don't want to mess it up. I'd rather have someone that knows what there doing help me in person or do it for me.

youre going to have to wet sand a garage paint job 99.999% of the time.

use 2000 grit on a block with water. If this is your first time, stay away from the edges.

BTW wet sanding that two months after the fact is gonna be a bitch. you might need to start with 1500 grit.

I can give you a working computer if someone wants to help. It's got Windows 7, AMD Dual Processor, 2GB of RAM, 150GB HDD and a good graphics card. I just don't use it anymore... Hit me up, really wanna get this thing done.
