Default loud exhaust ticket in NJ? Come on now!!

Stupid cops,...nothing better to do than give someone a ticket for a loud exhaust... and I was just cruising in 5th, 2200 rpms at most..now granted my exhaust is loud, but come on now..
I was coming home from a car show with my gf and her 2.5 year old son.. wasnt being loud, and this idiot pulls me over and asks..."Do you know why I am pulling you over?" and I'm thinking, yeah cause you are jealous dumb a$$ little dork cop who just finished his last donut and has nothing better to do?
Well instead I said, " no idea".
Well he says " Cause your exhaust made my ears bleed", which by the way is a lie, cause I looked and they weren't bleeding, now if they were I would of been cool!!, that's worth the $44.00 ticket..
Now this cop must of been a wimpy little wuss growing up, who doesnt like cool sounding cars..
Well he goes back to his car, makes me wait 15 mins, comes back and has the audicity to say..."I wrote you a summons for loud exhaust, you should know better, you are an adult!"
WoW, what a little pimple faced diaper wearing punk! Well that is when I stepped out of the car and gave him a wedgie, put his face near the tailpipe and gave him a full dose of Exhaust fumes.
LOL, ok didn't do that, but damn that would of been nice.
Well 44 bucks aint nothing, but im off that day and may just go and fight it, cause seriously, how do they prove it is too loud?

Any tickets for loud exhaust is bull$hit.

If peopel want cars ot be quiet, then they should make them factory quiet with no legal modififcations ot be sold.

I had a cop pull me over on Rt18 with my GF in the car, telling me my front tires were illegel. Now granted my front WHEELS say "for drag race only" but he was bitching about my tires. I told him they were Sears Guardsman, and last I head Sears did not make race tires, aside from that, they also had a DOT # on them like all street tires do. He went to check, came back and just continued being an ******* till he told me to go and went back to his POS Crown Vic.

Point being, most cops are ********, not all, but most. I have said this on these boards for years, and will continue to do so.

I would fight the ticket, unfortunatly you will not win and in the end wined up wasting your time.... It sucks.

My car is so quiet with it capped up I've never had a noise problem or been pulled over in the car. I do drive around on Welds and have never renewed my inspection sticker just out of pure laziness so I'm sure it's just a matter of time.

That is not correct in NY. They do not need a DB meter to right you a ticket. The way the law is written if its not stock, you can get a ticket.

NYS V-T LAW
31. Mufflers and exhaust systems. Prevention of noise. Every motor
vehicle, operated or driven upon the highways of the state, shall at all
times be equipped with an adequate muffler and exhaust system in
constant operation and properly maintained to prevent any excessive or
unusual noise and no such muffler or exhaust system shall be equipped
with a cut-out, bypass, or similar device. No person shall modify the
muffler or exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will
amplify or increase the noise emitted by the motor or exhaust system of
such vehicle above that emitted by the muffler or exhaust system
originally installed on the vehicle and such original muffler and
exhaust system shall comply with all the requirements of this section.
A muffler is a device consisting of a series of chambers or baffle
plates, or other mechanical design for the purpose of receiving exhaust
gas from an internal combustion engine, and effective in reducing noise.
An exhaust system is a series of mechanical devices for the purpose of
receiving exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine and expelling
it into the atmosphere.

That pretty much makes all these so called 50 state legal cat back systems illegal.. I lived in Staten Island NY for 4 years with two different Z28's and never got pulled over in NY. Both were loud as heck. Most of the time the cops there pulled young adults over and gave them a hard time. Age does have it's advantages I suppose.-Fred

the warning that i recieved when i bought my LM said it VERY clearly. while this catback is 50 state emissions legal local noise laws will vary. we at SLP recommend consulting ur local laws before installing this catback.... it also says it before you buy it that is is extremely loud and so on and so forth.... i know altering the stock exhaust is also illegal in CT as i am sure it also is for most states on the east coast....
as for the cop being a dick, well i didnt know they taught being a dick in the academy, but whatever. its called being professional....

gotta pay to play...you knew the law...you broke the law...fine the fine and stop whining.

its one thing if you tint your windows...run bald *** DR's...and decide to have duals and accept a ticket with a smiling face when you get it....its another to have all of this...know its illegal and then bitch when you get a ticket.

cops are there to enforce the law..not give tickets.

the easy way to get out of the ticket is to print up the test proceedure for exhaust volume and present it in court. since the law is based on a specified db limit, he woudl have to use a sound pressure meter to give you a ticket that would hold up in court.
even if he had a meter he would have to prove that he knows and followed procedure exactly and was well trained on the device.
you will have to look it up in the motor vehicle code, but i believe the federal highway limit is what new jersey still uses, that is 90 or 95db, which i can promise you is louder than your car at 2200 rpm.

good luck

based on that law the ticket woudl be for failing to properly maintain equipment, not noise.
