Default Anxiety........ car is at shop

Dropped my car off 2 days ago for the nasty roof panel, 2nd attempt to correct, this time they are replacing the panel. About a year ago I had the panel repainted, they grinded down the old and duraglassed it, Guess what the adhesive ate through the duraglass. The guy from the new shop called me today and said the were having a hell of a time getting the old one off, he said he called Chevy and a guy there said the panels were defective not the adhesive, so he sands the old one all the way down and could not believe how bad the panel was beening eaten up. So he took the old one off, and is going to use this adhesive they use to put corvette panels together to re-attach it. I just want it to be right. Even though it is not my daily driver I have anxiety issues knowing it's not safely in my garage. Should be reunited Saturday.

I'll be doing my roof panel this winter. I've done a few and they are a PITA. If they are replacing the panel this time and use the proper adhesive it should be perfect.

Default Roof panel

Both of my TA's have this issue.

Last year I tried a dealer where a friend works. They said nodda on a car 8 years old ? So much for the service bulletin !

I got the panel for $200 off e-bay and they are only charging $200 to paint and install.......... $400 total. Yeah the chevy dealership told me to basicallly go to hell when I approached them about it. It really was bugging the **** out of me rest of the car looks real good, roof panel? WTF? Chevy should have done the right thing but never did.

A round about price for a t-top car is about $1200 to 1400 and hard tops around 1600-1800. Depends on shop and labor rate.

I read through this... https://ls1tech.com/forums/paint-bod...ml#post9471957 ... and honestly it doesn't look like that hard of a job to do. I think the most difficult part would be coping w/ the fact that you're taking a pry-bar to your car

I guess if you have the stealership do it, but a new panel can be had for about $400. I have seen them sell for anywhere from $50 up. It is only a few hours of labor. I had several shops quote me $50 to $150 to paint the panel. Probably more if you need it color matched. If you do it yourself only about $10 for adhesive, or maybe 2-3 hours of labor for the shop. Unfortunately my car is still at the shop, he said there was so much adhesive on it it wasn't funny. I think my panel may have been replaced before.

I believe repainting it would only be a temporary fix, for the original adhesive GM used was too aggresive, slowly seeping through and causing the bubbling issues many of us have (myself included).

That was last year, this year it is getting a new panel, very upsetting besides that the cars paint looks great. I hate any type of work being done to my car. especially if I am not the one doing it. I'm what some call **** retentive especially about my car.
