Default What's it worth high mileage 98 z28

Hey guys, I have not been on here in awhile but looking to get back into the ls scene. I'm looking at buying a 98 z28 white a4 with 171k miles on it. The car is pretty much stock besides a k&n filter and a flow master muffler. The car has a brand new paint job less than 8 months old and comes on brush aluminum z06 wheels. The interior is black cloth and is in really good condition. The guy is asking $4000obo. The only thing im worried about is the mileage and is a 98, what is your all's input on this and what's its worth?

I think that is a Very reasonable price... did he say anything was wrong with it? I think if everything checks out, you should invest in some new rod bolts. The rod bolts aren't exactly the bulletproof construction people are talking about when they say the LS bottom end is strong. Also, pay attention to any of the pullies that might be crap, I'm sure there will be at least 1 that's gone bad by now. Simple fix, but it's something to look for when buying a pre 01', especially high mileage. Pictures?

Hmm good point, thank you for the advice. It has t tops and the guy said the car has zero problems. I've been looking around on here for a new motor with less miles. I'm debating on buying that and just swapping the motors out. Or do you think it's just better to send the one it comes with out or just rebuild the heads?

No problem man, just trying to help a fellow F Body owner! Hmm, I wish you could trust everyone but I say get it inspected or inspect it yourself just in case. Hmm, well what are your plans for it? Do you plan on modding it? N/A, nitrous, or boost? And as for the heads... I say scrap them, I hated the stock heads on my 98... not worth any time or money. Find some junkyard 5.3 heads and swap the 806valves on them or get cheap 243s in the classifieds. As for swapping out the whole motor for something else... an LQ4/LQ9 is cheaper than an LS1 and yields a good amount of potential over the LS1, especially if you're into boost. Good luck with which ever route you take

i just added some pics of the car, take a look. it really is just going to be a play around car until i can get some serious money coming in. i just want it for like a weekend car or maybe daily. havnt decided yet. ima make it look like my old 2000 z28/ss. 1st thing i gotta do is take the heads off and intake and take a look inside. if all checks out, 1st thing im doing is putting a intake and full exhaust 3 inch all the way out the back with a electric cut out and then maybe tear down the whole motor and put heads and cam in. oh and gears

I think 4k is way to high. Just a while back there was an 01 SS i beleive with 130k on it in the florida for sale section. Hood had some paint issues on the hood but the car had aftermarket wheels, Corsa, headers, etc etc etc and it sat on the market for a bit and it was at $4500.

Hmm I say keep it N/A and throw a huge cam in with some nitrous if it's gonna be a weekend fun car. I hope everything checks out when you tear it down! If the rotating assembly is bad, I definitely say go forged since you said you will be coming into some money. Might as well, just in case you want to add some nitrous or boost it later on ya know. And if you're not on a budget and want and intake, just get a fast 102. Reputation is great and it will be useful for a ton of different setups. You going true duals or keeping it a y pipe? BTW car looks Great!

Just bought the car. It's a very clean car and set up. I'll take some pics tomm after I paint the Berger panel and do a few things to it. The interior is flawless and dash isn't cracked! Even the head lights are Krystal clear and paint is perfect

If you look on the side of the intake there is a part number, plug that in to google and youll know for sure if it's an LS1 or LS6 intake. Congrats on the purchase

Come up and hang out and i'll give you a ride in it. It now has a built trans, all ARP hardware, MGW shifter with cobra bob shifter gasket, all new hydros/lines/speed bleeder and tick master. CME valance I bought for it is painted and on it, now I just have to finish the exhaust up. So much crap i've had to fix but it is getting there.
