OSW Veterans ... come on in!!!!
Need help deciding on tires for the back corners. Weighing the differences in two options ... which would you choose based on my driving environment? Keep in mind I only drive 2 miles to and from work and need a tire that sticks on the road and at the track.
1. Nitto 315/35R/17 555 Extreme DR's> $30.00 cheaper per tire; better wear and OK in the rain; run a little narrower than the MT Street DR's; enough tire to spray a 150 wet shot (not spraying in 1st (I have a A4 / Yank SS3600)?
2. MT 315/35R/17 Street DR's > $30.00 more per tire; stick like glue on the street and at the track; run a little wider than the Nitto's; OSW is 32 miles from the house; overkill for spraying a 150 wet shot (not spraying in 1st (I have a A4 / Yank SS3600)?
I've been running Nitto 275/40R/17's and have also had two pairs of MT Street DR's. The Nitto 275's aren't good for traction at OSW ... would the 315 width Nitto's be enough to get a good dead hook or would the MT Street drag radials be a MUST HAVE for launching (not spraying in 1st (I have a A4 / Yank SS3600).
Going crazy trying to decide!!!!

Can you find another (matching?) set of rims and just
swap on the track tires before you head out? I went
and got a whole 'nother set of the chrome 10-spokes,
one pair has ET Streets and the other I got narrowed
to 6" (no tires on them yet). At least that way you can
avoid the whole making-up-your-mind problem.

That's what I thought the general consensus would be, so, I'll be ordering the MT's tonight from JEG's ... a little extra money, ice skating in the rain, and 1/3 the life I got with the Nitto's. I guess hooking from a dig has ruled in this decision.
Jimmy, I think I'm going the extra wheels route, but, only for the rears because the car won't see the track but about once or twice a month.
Steve, I already have an adj BMR Torque Arm with relo brackets, SFC, LCA's, P/H bar, HD Bilsteins, and D/S safety loop. So, not too much suspension work needed since it's not an all-out drag car (yet). I do think with a good 60 ft time I will be very close to breaking 10's when the weather is right and close to 9's on the spray.
Taking this all into consideration, I guess the MT's are about the only choice that will get me where I want to be.
Now, even though I'm an A4, the 12-bolt is a concern with the MT's in a 315 width.
Anyone else think at my power level the difference in going 275 width to a 315 width in a Nitto DR would be enough to cut 1-5's? Last call - for methanol!!!!

The Nitto Dragradials work great on the street and in rain but not at the track. You should get the MT 315/17s instead of the MT 275/17s the extra width helps at OSW ( the starting line is bald , smooth concrete). Randy says they are fixing the starting line this winter. I switched to the 315/17 MTs from 275/17 a few weeks ago and it has helped. In my opinion the MT ET Street slicks are not as good as the MT Dragradial in the same width, the dragradial is a softer compound and does not cause lane walk at the top end of the track like a slick.

Yeah, if anybody can give track advice about OSW (or any other Florida track for that matter), it's definitely Dave. I ordered two AFS 11" x 17's to match the 9.5" x 17's I already have on the car now. The rears needed replacing anyway (damaged), so when I get the two new wheels (they'll ship today), I'll have MT Street DR's in a 315/35R/17 ... ordering from JEG's in a few minutes.
Dave, we'll be pulling for you at the Nationals and hope to see you at the track soon. Steve, when you going to race at OSW next? I'm thinking tonight, but, may not make it out due to previous plans with my daughter. Next Wednesday for sure I'll be racing ... hopefully the wheels and tires will be here and on the car then ... it's asking for a lot, but, very possible.
Thanks fellows.

Just got my MT DR's ... 315/35R/17. They're 3" wider than the Nitto 275's. I knew MT's run a little bit wider than Nitto's, but, these f**cking things are monster wide!!!! New 11" rims will be here Tuesday. I'm shooting for having them on the car in time to head out to OSW next Wednesday night. Anybody goin' out then?
I'm leaving work early to get out there before the ricers start draggin' water up to the line. Hopefully, with these new tires, I'll be able to stall it past 1500 rpm without sittin' there spinning my *** off ... cutting a good 60 ft, I should easily be in the 11's ... even with the hot weather and undesirable track conditions. Anybody disagree?
