Default What Gears for high hp guys.

What gears you 1k hp guys running??
I ran my car last month on 19psi and was running out of gear before that traps.
I currently run a TH400,9 with 3.25s and a 28 inch tall tire.
Id like to be more like 6k through the traps not 6800+

That sounds like converter slip on the big end.

Yeah, unless your car traps 155 or so the converter is slipping too much. With no slipage, at 1:1, with a 3.25 gear, 6800 rpm, and a 28'' tall tire the car should go 174 mph. Some of the 1000+ rwhp cars are running a taller tire and they do wind them higher out the back door then going down the track.

if you are going 147 at 6800 rpm.. you are at 22.8 percent slipage.

so its not the gear, and if you put in a 3.00 or 2.75 you will see even more slippage!

can i ask why you only wanna go through the traps at 6k?

putting in these 3.25, 3.00 gears and **** just put more load on the converter and cause it to be less efficent.

People don't seem to understand that on this site.

Aright cool I knew my Converter was done I just thought i needed new gear too.My shift extensions were only 200 rpms on those passes so I figured to much slip.
Im going to buy the Neil Chance pro mod bolt together.Hopefully that helps a lot!

If im at 22% slip where do u want to be?

with a turbo car its hard to see much better then 7-9 percent unless you really spin the crap out of the car.

but 7-9 and i would say your doing good with a street turbo car.

oh and with 3.25 gears you will have a hard time getting a efficent converter.

So 3.50's or 3.70's would be better for a turbo car?

i would say depending on mph.... most of these cars are to heavy to be running 3.00 and 3.25 gears, weight and the gearing puts tons of load on the converter (and thats why you hear about people saying they spool faster) but at the same time you take all efficency out of the converter.

you can see most of the real fast guys(mid and upper 7's) are running 3.50 gears, yes they rev them higher but they also go 190mph!!!

most turbo stuff ends up around 10-12% slippage,Marty can def get you a converter that will work much better

I love my 2.75 rear gears and 28" tall tires, but my converter doesn't slip up top as much as yours does. I run my car through the traps in 2nd and use 3rd as overdrive. If I start going much faster I'll go to a 2.50 gear or 30" tall tires.

i agree w/ most of above, that you need to concentrate on the converter first.

i run a 3.0 gear and a yank converter and i see 600 rpm drop

so I should prolly be seeing a similar drop since i run a 28 tire.
Ill try it out and see I guess
