duramax diesel turbo on my ls1?
a kid i work with has a turbo off a duramax diesel he wants to sell, im not sure and neither is he about dimensions and if it will bolt up to my "ptk" ebay turbo kit, (t4 flange, and 3"downpipe) also i was wondering if it would be to big of a turbo for my stock ls1 to spool to make good power...

Diesel turbos WILL work on an LS1.....my current turbo is from a 15 Liter Caterpillar....and it works awesome.
However, from my research, the Duramax LB7 turbo would be too small, if anything. Plus, the flanges are all goofy, and they are indeed internally wastegated.
I was planning to use one on my truck, awhile back....I even had flanges made...

The flange is not a typical exhaust flange.
Since the turbo is mounted in the V of the block. The rear manifolds pipe into the turbo together at the bottom of the turbo, and its 2 small holes. Not a flat plate like other turbos.
Like this
BTW, they are only good for 34psi, and about 500hp. On a diesel of course

Turbos from Diesels generally need to be from an engine about twice the displacement of the gas engine its going on due to the fact that Diesels run at such low rpms. a 6.7l turbo, even with the correct flanges, would be best on a 3.x liter motor

the problem for holset turbos and just about every diesel turbo is that the frame on them are huge!! and there strange flanges
for stock ls1 cubes you are looking at a hx55 holset which would be a good turbo if you could find the room to put the monster and its not going to work with just about any turbo kit so you pretty much have to build a truck manifold setup
imo much more trouble then there worth
