Default 22lbs from PT88 too much?

I have a forged 370 with a PT88. Made good power, 840-ish to the wheels at 22lbs.

Turbo locked up in about two weeks of driving. Send it back to precision, they are saying the motor is too big for the turbo, thrust bearing on the turbo went bad, and we should back the boost down to like 17 lbs..

does this sound right?

sounds like precision.......

and why I wont own one.

My first turbo was a precision......after two rebuilds and about 2200 total, sent it to another company. They said it should have never been built and was doomed to failure.
That was my last precision turbo. Funny thing is, I have never had any other "mysterious" failures ever since. Just my experience though.

Subscribed. Interested in how this shakes out. I have pretty much the same setup and intend to crank up the boost once I get my bottom end forged.

Look at MIGHTYMOUSE's car. Similar boost levels with an 88 on a 364 and running 8.7's.....

Sounds fishy to me

He's not running a PT88 if I remember correctly. Atleast not a regular one.

I believe MM is around 24 psi with that turbo about maxed out.
I have heard of a string of PT88 failures lately.

ive run mine to 22psi and about 2 days later on the street it just locked up. they said the thrust went out. they upgraded to the new 360* thrust and larger bearing. I just got it back and will start it up tonight. 6 week turnaround. also they said it needed more oil. so i upgraded to a -4 feed. i was running a -3 no restrictor. i have a 370 also. i know the turbo has more in it. my boost controller was on 57% i would think 30psi is possible with it set on 100.

I could have sworn that he told me it was modified/upgraded somehow. I may have gotten him mixed up with someone else.

I hurt several t4 pt 88's with a 408, like 4 of them. They kept telling me it was an oiling problem even after I told the 8th person my combo. On the 9th time they told me I was pushing it too hard/overspinning it.
