Default D1SC to F1A Upgrade

I have a used D1SC head unit right now. I remember hearing something a while back about being able to send it off to certain places for an upgrade to an F1A unit. Not sure if they were talking about just changing the internals and rebuilding it since it has the same casing, or just trading it in as a core with like $1k for a new F1 head unit. Does anyone know of anyone who does this?

EPP might do it, but I dont think they do. I would just try to sale the D1SC on here. You could sell it for around 1500-2000 depending on the condition.

you can send out your p1 and make it into a d1,but you cant send out your d1 and make it into an f1

Yeah, I just spoke to ATI directly and they informed me of that so I guess I'll just have to sell the D1SC unit and buy an F1.

Yep the f1 has a 4" inlet, so the case and everything is bigger.

The F-1 and F-1A have the same inlet as the P and D series, the inlet size does not change until you jump up to the F-1C. A D-1SC cannot be made into an F series blower though. Bob

This D1SC head unit has a small chip on the front imeller, probably from road debris (I can get a pic up if needed). I think it's ok, but how would I go about getting it tested to make sure it's not going to shatter once I cank the boost up with it? If it ends up having to be rebuilt, how much does that generally run?

I wouldn't worry about a small chip. A new impeller would run ya around 1200 & can only be done at ATI.

I have a P1 with the smaller pulley, that's good information to know, thanks.

I guess I'll just try and max this blower out then since I already have it right now. I need to get the SDCE 8 rib bracket kit. What is the smallest pully I should run on this D1SC before it becomes too inefficient?

From what I recall, you can do that with a P1SC to D1SC, and with a F1A to a F1C.

Mine is maxed and does pretty well. 3.4" is the smallest pulley that ProCharger makes and spins my blower (with a 7.65 crank pulley) to 61,808RPMs at 6,700 RPM's from the motor. With the 7.25 pulley found in the SDCE kit you'll need 3.2" blower pulley to spin the blower to 62,237 RPM's at the same 6,700RPM at the motor. However the recommended max RPM on D1-SC is 62,000.

Does the F1A and D1SC share the same impeller? Something that could be done is a bearing change inside the D1SC, that alone would make it similiar to a F1A IMO.

Around 800 rwhp hopefully, maybe like 750 with pump gas and meth. I saw a guy on here talking about running a 3.0" pulley on his D1SC to max it out. Is that a good idea or is that overdoing it?

800 is easy with the D1 and the right cam + meth...
over spinning is fine as long as you go with better bearings in the head unit, some good abec 9's will do the trick...

So does that mean I have to get the HU rebuilt with new bearings? How much will that cost?

you should meet your goal without having to overspin the unit pretty easy... but when you want more, the cost depends on what bearings you go with... $200-$600 for the bearings...

Are the bearings pretty easy to install yourself? Do they have to be pressed and all that?

I'd be pretty leery about spinning it higher than 62k with a damaged (aka not perfectly balanced) impeller! Those vanes gotta flex pretty good under those kind of loads....
