Default Is anyone else liquifying the poly motor mounts with truck manifolds?

Like the title reads, I am melting the poly motor mounts with in 100 miles of putting them on. I noticed that my first set was melting shortly after putting together the turbo kit with the stock block. At first I thought that it was either from the welding without having the block properly grounded during the initial fab. I got another set and switched them in and went to the track 2 times. The second time out with the new mounts, I blew up the stock block. When I took it apart I noticed that those were now melted so I bought another set thinking that it was from the small oil fire that I had under the hood. Now the 3rd set is melting after 100 break in miles and one trip to the track. It's running down the Kmember arm like wax from a candle. The manifolds are not coated or wrapped. They only have the shields on top. I did alot of reading about the truck manifold setups before I embarked on the project and I dont recall having ever heard mention of this problem.

You should never wrap anything that is ceramic coated. It ruins the coating. I think you are going to have to go with solid mounts.

a small heat shield for the clams made from flashing may solve the problem, along with wrap, but it may be too much hassle to remove manfolds just to wrap them.

Same here. That's what I can't believe. What is it that could be sooo different about my manifold setup?

I should change the location to:

Sweltering pit of Hell.

That's what the weather has been like all this week anyway. I wish some of that good air would get down here already.

I use stock mounts with 1 chain on pass side. Works great. Just have to use a little redneck ingeneering.

Alot people have had the problem even some nitrous-n/a guys. I would just make some heat shielding for them.

That's good to know. I took a ride down the RPS today to pick up a few fittings as I am redoing all the vaccum lines in the stainless quick connect stuff and I mentioned this issue to them. They've been around turbo stuff longer than me. I guess one of them had a fox body with poly mounts and the DP was a good 3-4 inches away and it was getting blistered up. Perhaps the poly is less resistant to heat than the stock ****.

is your downpipe wrapped? I know that helped A LOT with my original engine/turbo setup.

Nope. I need to do that but the DP isn't anywhere near them. It's the manifolds that are melting them.

Picture? Mine are just a clam shell with the poly goo inside and a rod running thru the center.
