Just spent the last roughly 2 hours reading through the entire thread. Great stuff. Makes you realize how much work goes into a project that's designed to haul the mail in 7.9x seconds. Major props to you guys for going through hell and sticking with it. No way I could do it. I hope it eventually smooths out and the cost of repairs goes down and the amount of fun and actually enjoying the car goes up. Anyways, just wanted to say thanks for sharing all the information. Best of luck and keep up the great work. Subscribed for all future updates.
Cobra, I would like to give my 2 cents. There will be nothing holding those dowels in. Both times my bolts backed out I found the dowel pin in the bottom of the pan. They were first to come out before the bolts.
The bolts will be wired and can't back out, but the pins are pressed in and still vulnerable to vibrating out. Maybe some type of epoxy can be used
Just a thought.

It's too bad you can't run a full size balancer.
A HUGE majority of timing chain failures seem to be directly related to running an underdrive balancer or none at all.
It was a PITA, but I was able to sneak a -10 drain on either side of my ATI balancer.
If I were to do it again, I would have started off with a truck style ATI balancer to give me a little more room to work with.
Just my $.02

Balancer is a must IMO. I'd do what needs to be done to get one on there. Cap off the drain holes, move them whatever... sucks I'm sure, but I'd do it, along with wiring the nuts, and the green retaining compound on the additional pins, AND red loctite on the bolts.
After a mess like that I'd be taking NO chances.

Look out for that oil pump.
If it is harmonics, that oil pump will be next!
Same thing kept happening to my buds 4banger. But it was destroying the oil pump.
Threw in the fluiddampner and all has been awesome for the past 4years.

Wanted to post a little update.
Motor Status: Head with the broken valve is being repaired.
I finally got my hands on a lobe catalog from Comp Cams and we selected a slightly different cam. It will now be a 250/250 .672/.672 113 +2. It's pretty much the same but with about .050 more lift for ***** and giggles as the valvetrain can take it.
We also found that 2 of the inconel valves had the tips mushroomed. Gotta figure out why but leaning towards defective. This would cause a great deal of harmonics as the rocker was smacking the valve like a hammer.
Transmission Status: En route to Rossler for pump and shaft modification so that the transmission cooling circuit works again.
Converter: At FTI getting a sprag put back in it. Spragless makes too much heat.
Big Stuff 3: Was sent back to Big Stuff to have it checked out as the WBO2 was giving us some issues. While it was there, the intention was to have it upgraded with some additional inputs, 3 step and individual EGT's. We got the quote back for a little over $4,000 just for upgrades. I started doing a little hunting around and found out that the better way to go is to use a RacePak so we got some quotes on that and it was even more money. I got to talking with Steve and we decided that now was the time to make a change before he got in any deeper. So that's what he is doing.
Holley Dominator EFI is on order. The interface is beautiful and modern and it will have all the features that we need for under $4K total and he can sell the BS3 to recoup about half of that.

I priced everything out on Summit's website and was pretty surprised cost wise. I think I am going that way also.

I wouldn't buy it from someone like Summit. They are just a parts house that will offer no support at all and direct you to Holley direct. Using a distributor that is familiar with the device and has installed it on a few different platforms seems like a better way to go IMO. Let me know if you want the name of the person that we are working with. He seems to have been involved in the design of the thing or atleast beta testing for it and has installed it several times.

I just got a quote back from Moore that was just as good. I would rather buy from them for the reasons you listed.

That's who he is dealing with. So far everything is going as promised. He got all the harnesses, power module and widebands. The computers are 1-2 weeks out from what I have understood.
Also, Steve has decided to switch over to a 58X reluctor and 4X cam sprocket.

PLEASE.... PLEASE keep us updated on how the Holley system works out. There's little info out there on that right now, and it's something that I have been looking into, and several others I know of are as well.
From the reports I have read, it should be just as described, easy to use and have all the features that anyone would need..
I am looking forward to feedback on it and the results, and THANK YOU forbeing one of the first to take the leap to it!
