Default budget ball bearing turbo?

My brothers friend is building a 383 sbc and he wants to put an 70+mm ball bearing turbo. I don't know what his goal is but that's what he wants. Are the s400 turbos ball bearing? Or what's a good budget one. Thanks in advance.

I dont know of any cheap turbo's that are ball bearing. Ball bearing to me means usually expensive. Tell him he has displacement and does not need something ball bearing.

I've heard rumors of import guys getting junkyard turbo's, machine the shaft/housing to accept a bearing cartridge. I've never seen one though

S400's not BB they are large shaft journal bearings.

It is generally about a $300 upgrade to make most turbos BB. But I know MP's and BW don't offer BB. Those are the 2 most popular econo turbos

Cheapest BB turbo would probable be a Turbonetics TC76 or 78 for about $1300-$1400.

Can you machine a holset hx35 to be ball bearing? I searched on google and didn't turn anything up? That'd be the best news ever.

single hx35 would be WAY too small for a 383

Neither the 7.3L or 6.0L Powerstroke turbo is ball bearing.

How much power is your friend trying to make? Like someone else said, he might not even need a ball bearing turbo unless he's trying to make huge power down low...

"Ball bearing" and "budget" dont go together. Gotta pay to play, but like KB said, the Tnetics will be the least expensive.
