Default Anyone tried the LS9 ZR1 camshaft

I just installed the LS9 ZR1 cam in my GTO last weekend. Specs are 211/230 .558/.552 122.5LSA. Definately a little bit of a power increase over the stock LS2 cam. I've got a Maggie 122 that will be here tomorrow that I will be installing this weekend. I'm just wondering if anyone has tried this cam out yet. I'm anxious to see how it performs. My mods after the Maggie 122 will be as follows:

LQ4 6.0 block 9.8:1 compression
241 heads w/LS6 springs
Comp 7.4 pushrods
LS9 ZR1 camshaft
Kooks 1 7/8 LTs
3in catless exhaust w/Magnaflow mufflers
Maggie 122 w/1:1 rears & 2.8 front pullies, 60lb injectors
LPE hi-flow fuel pump
ColdAirInductions CAI

I'm anxious to see what this setup puts down.

You gonna be around 510-530rwhp on pump gas no meth.

Your setups beggin for a 2300 imo....

If the 122 is all you got then try a 3.1 pulley on a 75 shot with good meth kit.Should be well into the tens like that if everything is matched correctly.

I'm confused as to why you would recommend me going from a 2.8 pulley to a 3.1? I'm not planning on any nitrous. Might do Meth when I get a little more cash.

Just curious. What does that cam cost? Did you get it from the dealership? Thanks, Mike.

They are on sale for 130 from some vendor while supplies last.

I saw a dealer cost of 159....list and as low as 96$. I was gonna check my deler since I get a good price and see if they will beat the 130 I saw.

You also need the ls2 timing cover, roller chain tensioner, and cam sensor extention or lenghten yours.

LPE discountinued the gt 7 cam because they couldnt compete with the low gm price of the same basic cam that is the ls9 cam.

Im putting one in my awd van. st80, 405 ci.

how much of an improvement is that LPE hi-flow fuel pump over stock? are you going to "need" it? im asking because im doing a similar setup, just a different cam and a 2.9 pulley.

It is most definately a must with a Maggie. The LPE hi-flow is basically a Walbro 255. I wouldn't run FI withouth a pump upgrade.

Couple diffrent reasons you are more than likley gonna run into some belt slip problems with the 2.8 but it will probably fine on motor. My intended purpose for suggesting the 3.1 was on the bottle it will slip + you are out of the effiencey range so instead of adding more heat then hp. i suggeted a lil bottle action.

I follow ya. For now this is just going to be a mild running setup. I have a 408 in the works for later this year or next year. This will just be something to have fun with until then.

oookkk, whats better the lpe or the walbro? also any idea how much both of them run price wise? I just need injectors and a pump and ill be ready to install the maggie, got my gauges, pulley, cam, pushrods, timing chain. im going to be running a truck radix charger though.

OK, now I have some questions. I have an 01 LS6 shortblock that I was going to turbocharge. Is it still possible to use this cam?

You can use it but you will have to get an LS2 timing cover and a camshaft sensor wiring extension to go to the LS2 cover.

I think it came with a pump, but it goes along the fuel lines outside the tank. that sound right?

My fuel pump is in tank. I'm not sure how yours would be. Most Magnachargers come with a Magnavolt, which is pretty much junk. Not all kits are the same either so I couldn't tell you what to expect with yours. I'd still recommend the pump and injectors most importantly.
