Default Turbocharging a 355 Chevelle

I am wanting to turbo my 70 Chevelle for fun since there is so much room under the hood and it will give me something to do over summer. I tried researching but no one seems to have any real details on it. So here are some questions..

What would be the best turbo for my 355? Not sure what my goal is, maybe 400rwhp or whatever the motor can handle reliably. I want it to be a daily driver that can hang with LS1's and Stangs', not some race car.

I have access to a welder so that's covered. So I need a Turbo, carb(unless I can convert mine) and piping(making myself)? Is there anything else I need? Any tips for this?

start by giving us more info on the 355. Compression ratio, fasteners used for the rods and heads, valve train components.

If you hang around here you will see there are a lot of things to be concerned about when you add boost. Fuel systems need to be able to provide sufficient fuel. Motor parts need to be able to take far more cylinder pressure. And the tune up had to be spot on. You will read here about guys running stock LS motors. Keep in mind this is a stronger platform with more efficient cooling, and the PCM allows very accurate adjustment to compensate.

swap in a n/a ls motor and make same power as that motor on 5-10psi
even a mild built 5.3 will run strong.

It has a nice electric fuel pump on it so that should be covered. I thought about putting in a 5.3 but I wanted to turbo my 99 Trans Am and use the Chevelle as a test bed. I don't want my T/A to be down for a summer not knowing what I am doing.
I have only had the car a week and haven't even looked at it let alone go through the motor.

I could always turbo this motor to learn how and then sell it all for a 5.3 or better engine later on..

So the list now is:
Turbo
Wastegate
Stock manifolds
Flanges
Tubing
Carb or conversion kit

What else? Doesn't the turbo need some sort of oil feed? How does that work?

-4AN high pressure oil feed line, -10AN oil drainback line, Blow Off Valve. Intercooler. Oil Cooler ( in line with the feed for the turbo) turbo, Super T70 should be good. would also recommend a wideband O2 sensor with a datalogging box to help tune it. flange for oil drain, T4 flange gasket, exhaust gaskets, air filter, oil catchcan/pcv setup, tubing for Downpipe- Hot sides- and wastegate dump pipes

Alright so:
T70 $325
Oil lines $65
Blow off valve $35
Intercooler $60
Intercooler pipes $50
Odds and ends $100
Total = $635

How am I doing so far? I am going to cut up the headers for the exhaust.

Anything else I need?

Where are you finding these low *** prices? Buy good products the first time. I wouldn't buy that cheap turbo, get at least a Master Power brand.

Need a wastegate
Blow through carb or some sort of conversion kit for the one you have
Hot side piping
Flanges for the turbo and wastegate
Carb hat
silicone couplings
Probably some valvespings and pushrods

It's going to cost a lot more then $600 bucks. Even on the super cheap I would expect it in the $2000 range.

im pushing almost 5k just in parts right now. I too am wondering where your getting prices that low and do agree, FI is not the place to buy cheap bullshit. cheap stuff breaks and blows motors. also a few good things to replace while you at it are the water and oil pumps.

more stuff youll need are,:

intake manifold elbow
high volume fuel pump and larger feed line
add in cost of welding wire and shielding gas
gaskets
paint and heat wrap
Downpipe piping
and all the other things in my previous post
