Default Blonwn head gaskets!

For some reason when i got a heavy foot in my car a couple weeks ago, it over boosted and then I saw the infamous white smoke out the exhaust. I finally got some free time from college so i pulled the motor and then the heads, is this where head gaskets normally blow? since it was both back cylinders it is possible that i didn't get the torque right on them. here are a couple pics.

This was bent up like that before i pulled the head off!

Another angle

What kind of gaskets were they?? Those type of head gaskets aren't ideal for boost, I would have stuck with the stock style MLS gaskets.

yeah those graphite type gaskets are crap !!

Get some GM muiltilayer steel gaskets (MLS) and some ARP head studs and you will be good to go.

Junk. Get some Cometic MLS gaskets with ARP hardware like WAHUSKER mentioned and you should be good to go.

I think I forgot to mention that it is an LT1 and not an LS1. If I choose to run cometics, what kind of special prep does the block need?

no special prep, just make sure your:
block surface is clean.
heads taken to machine shop to straight edge them/resurface since you had a blown h/g.
then reinstall them dry. no sealer, rtv or whatever other crap people use,

go with the cometic mls gaskets. they shud have them in stock.

p.s. would definitly upgrade to ARP bolts/studs on boosted apps !!!

note: only use GM ptfe on bolts as needed that are in the water or oil passageways
& don't cheap out on the gaskets, use cometic only. I swear by them!!!

and I guess guys above did't pay attention cause I knew they weren't LS gaskets......

good luck with the repair man!

Thanks So.jerZ-28, I have ARP bolts already and the machine shop called today and said they were warped .004-.005 so they milled them so i guess i will need to custom order cometics in a thicker than stock size so i dont raise the cr too much

no that wont but they said they had to take it down .010 and the cc ended up at 54cc's and that puts me at 10.1-2:1 a little higher than i would like it

C5645-040 is the stock thickness gasket in MLS form from cometic
C5645-051 should be .051" thick part #

if you call them up directly you can usually have them in a week if they have to be run, if its in stock than 2-3 days

About how much on average does it cost to have a machine shop look over your heads for you? I have a blown head gasket in my 06 GTO and will want one to look at mine for me. Just trying to get an idea on how much it'll cost me. Sorry to thread-jack OP.
