Default Turbo crossover length- both sides equal???

As the title says, I am trying to find out if the crossover pipes need to be same length?

Truck mani setup
76mm turbo

Reason I ask is for turbo placement. If the crossover should be equal length, the turbo will go where everyone else places their- in front of the water pump. If it does not matter, the turbo will go up a little higher and to the right- more where the battery sits. With the turbo placed the way the pic below shows, the passenger side pipe before the merge would be considerably shorter than the driver side pipe. Here is a pic of Kyle's old car for reference......

Let me know what you guys think

Thanks,
Andy

Mount the turbo where ya want it. Run the hot pipes to the turbo. Don't get caught up in the equal length stuff.

equal length...no...but you want similar amounts of bends in each pipe...can cause a bit of imbalance in the motor otherwise...

Brian- So you are saying to keep the crossover tubes similar in length and the amount of bends? That this would cause back pressure issues in the engine otherwise?

try to keep equal amounts of bends if possible. trying to get both heads seeing "similar" conditions

Then it sounds like I should just center mount it and be done with it

not really...you aren't going to have any crazy amount of bends in it...just don't have a straight line from the passenger side to the turbine...

Just go straight forward and up. Youre overthinking this.

the manifolds are facing down...you are going to need two bends at minimum to make it to the turbine...they'll probably match out no matter how you do it...

I'll tell you this...unequal lengths will be seen in the motor on tear downs.

I will just do what everyone else has done and run it in the middle in front of the water pump

Point taken. When people like you and Brian give advice, I have to listen! Haha

If you look at our old setup, our turbo was offset to the passenger side and the tubing was very short on that side and longer on the driver side. You could tell which side of the motor had the short side and which side had the long side. Basically you will end up with a greater pressure in the header tubes on the short side.

Quick Reply: Turbo crossover length- both sides equal???
