Good question, I'd like to know if there is anything that is not a huge 40+lb anchor. It seems once you go past the TC76-78 / PTE76GTS size turbos they just get huge and difficult to package. I still don't see why you can have a TC76 turbo that weighs 20lbs yet can make 6-700 rwhp, and the next step up seems to be a S380 / 480 or a GT4580 which are both huge. There is nothing in between that I am aware of. It seems the best power / size unit might be the PT76GTS but it's not exactly small.

I'd call precision, I'm pretty sure you can at least get a 80mm wheel in a 76gts housing.

They do not cast their 80mm wheel any more.

Even if you do cram a larger compressor wheel into smaller housing, you run into the issues of the exhaust side being too small to support the flow of the larger comp wheel.

I have a Comp Turbo CT80 T4 (1.15 A/R turbine) rated at 1150hp that is relatively small and weighs 21lbs (alum center section). They are worth a look as well. Triple ball bearing turbos.

I never realized you went to a Comp

I have been considering going from the TC78 to a Comp for the larger turbine yet still retain a small/light turbo

but it is hard to find info and specs for them anywhere it seems

do you know by chance the turbine ind/exd on that turbo? or where to find info?

what kind of price too? ~2k?

Thanks!!

Agree on the Comp turbos
Have used 2 of them on supras and they are unbeleiveable. A triple ball bearing 67mm q-trim with a spool valve on a 2jz (instant boost, like 20psi at 2500rpm)
Then a 74mm MX trim triple ball bearing on a 7m, made 30psi at 5600 and was making well into the 700whp area.

As far as sizing, they use single size turbines, so a 79mm is 79mm everywhere. They also have recently came out with an oil-less triple ball bearing center section that would be perfect for a rear mount, no drain to worry about, ever!

I'm putting it on a 364ci LS2.

There aren't a lot of people running the Comp Turbo or at least not a ton of info/feedback on them. It is a bit pricey.... If you put a stainless steel Vband turbine housing on them you can shed another 3-4lbs.... Tial and a couple other places make them now.

PT88 has run high 8's on a 370ci setup weighing 3800lbs.... They work too!

PTE Billet 76 or PTE 88. 88 is mid frame and larger. 76 isnt much bigger and will make quite a bit more power then the tc78.
