Default keep the MPT 70, or go with TC76?

I am getting ready to pull my LS1, swap in a 5.3, and install my truck mani turbo kit. I've been collecting parts for it for months, and my original plan was to use a Master Power T70 (.96 a/r) that I have and is brand new. However, I ran across a TC 76 (p trim, .81 a/r) locally that is used (barely), and if I sold my MPT70, would only cost me a couple hundred to "upgrade" to. My concern with the MPT70 is that I'll max it out right away and basically be at my max power from the get go. Is it worth it to use the TC76 instead of the MPT70, or is the difference small enough that if I really wanted more power, I'd need to go with a completely larger turbo (which I don't intend to do)?

Parish's 5.99 was a 9.49 in the 1/4 (ran out of gear or was blowing thru the converter).

if you dont mind me asking, why you pulling the the ls1? Id say put the heads and cam on/in the the ls1, sell the 5.3 and t70 and go with the tc76

but if you go with the 5.3 and the t56 then stay with the t70
if you swap the th400, then the tc76

im swapping in the 5.3 because I suspect itll handle the abuse of what i throw at it better. plus, if i blow up the ls1, it wont be worth much. if i sell it a good running lower mileage ls1, i can fund most of the rear end I will need. win win.

the smaller housing on the 76 will offset the fact that its considerably larger, and if it does turn out to be too small he shouldnt have any trouble selling it to offset teh cost of the marginally larger .96 housing. Besides the fact that Josh has more first hand knowledge of these 2 turbos than all of us combined lol, when he says

100% agree. I have a 9 sec Z with a TC 76, but with .96 ar on the hot side. e85 + 11# = high 9 for me.

Its not some much the size of the exhaust housing. It more a matter of the efficiency ranges of the turbo's. With the 5.3L engine the .81A/R will not be as big a factor. It will aid in a quick spool up which we all know is fun in a street car. At the end of the day both turbos will work, and I will say damn near make similar results. I had rather see the TC76 go on soley to have the room to swap the .81 A/R Turbine hosung for the .91 then maybe the 1.15 as the engine platform grows.

just run the MP t70

both turbos are only utilizing P-trim turbines and that will be the bottle neck before anything

sure get the t76 and put a larger housing on but you still only have a P-trim in there, heck that is a decent amount smaller than the popular fast spooling f1-68

Quick Reply: keep the MPT 70, or go with TC76?
