Default Prochargers New Front Mount Kit - Camaro SS Install with Pictures

Wanted to share some pictures from a install I'm doing using the new Procharger Front Mount Intercooler Kit. As some have probably seen the kit doesn't clear a Factory Camaro SS hood without cutting the fiberglass in one spot.

Personally cutting the hood wasn't an option and most people will probably agree that is a bad way to make this kit fit so I worked on the kit to make it fit without cutting the hood or making any other modification to the vehicle.

Here is a simple way to make the kit fit

1.) Cut the rubber supplied connection from the throttle body to the supplied 90deg. steel elbow to 2.5" to make the distance from the throttle body to the steel 90 elbow shorter (as short as possiable but make sure it clears the throttle body blade, this car has a stock LS6 intake and throttle body)

2.) Replace supplied straight rubber connection next to the fuse box for a 3" 45deg. connection ( seen in blue for mock up )

3.) Cut the supplied steel 90deg. elbow that is for by the fuse box to a 45deg. ( I placed the pipe over top and marked it then cut it off the car) Once cut clean pipe and install using the new 45deg. connection and the supplied connection to the Maf sensor.

Here are a few pictures showing the whole install.

Of course, I just wanted to show how it fits without any bumper mods made.

Man reason I included pictures was because of the rumors I've heard that it will get air from under the car and that cutting the bumper wasn't needed. As you can see thats not really correct.

It looks great! We did manage to keep the grille intact on Call911's Camaro using our old EPP kit. Ben says it does a decent job of cooling, but it would have to be even better with the grille cut out. Bob

Hey Nate. Been awhile since I've been on here. Do you think there is room to build an air damn under the car to try to get more airflow up from underneath?

" IN MY OPINION " I wouldn't want to have two air damns trying to force air up under the car. I don't feel the air damn would do much as the air would be coming up right at the bottom and would most likely flow right over the intercooler vs. going thru the intercooler. There is nothing to direct the air thru the intercooler air IMO would flow right over it into the bumper void. Also adding a second air damn taking air away from the radiator is a bad move IMO as most Procharger cars run hotter unless extra fans have been added. Air damn in front of air damn just doesn't seem like it would work then having nothing to direct air forcing it thru the intercooler I don't see this working.

CALL911 probably has never logged his Air intake temps and I would guess that they are only " fine " because he doesn't really know what they are with or without the air damn in that location. Ben also uses Methanol which is more than likely fixing/helping the Air intake temps. I would love to log his car and see what the difference is.

I think it's been proven time after time that most of the cooling from air to air coolers is from its heat sink properties rather than its heat exchanger properties. That's why many times airflow over cooler doesn't make a huge difference.

That is some great build **** right there. That new front mount looks definitely larger than the EPP one on the car I recently acquired. How much boost do you plan on running?

To the other posters: On a Procharged car (or really any car), you definitely want the stock front air damn on there directing air up into the radiator. I would not do anything to direct air away from it. I am 100% certain on this based on personal experience with two different D1SC equipped cars, cruising them down the highway both with and without the front spoiler. Dramatic difference in coolant temp.

Alright, thanks for the information. If air flow poses to be an issue, I'll look into different grille options.

Great looking job!! I actually have the same car as you with virtually the same setup. The only problem I have with my car and something you're probably going to run into is the a/c. I have my grill cutout but with the a/c heat exchanger located behind everything else my a/c was virtually useless. This maybe something you might want to look at if you're planning on keeping the a/c.

Actually isn't my car just a car I'm working on for a guy. He plans to keep a/c so we will be testing the air flow and logging temps to make sure we have enough air if not we will make changes as we go.

This car isn't my DD and see's very little miles so I am not too worried about the A/C if it presents to be an issue for me. That is good information to know though so thanks.

To answer the other question, the car has a stock bottom end right now so the boost level is only going to stay in the 8psi range...for now

I feel you you on not being a DD, when I bought my car in 09 it had something like 32xxx miles and now it might have 36xxx miles. Your car is really going to perform even with a stock bottom and 8lbs (that was my original setup then I went to a F1a charger and sold the D1SC). Are you upgrading your tranny or using the 4l60e.

I have a built T56 from RPM. Car currently has 21,700 on it and the transmission was built at about 12-13K miles.

Thank you. Nate has been doing an outstanding job despite some hiccups with getting parts to come in that were on back order and missing.

I'll probably enjoy it more once I get some new rubber on the rears. I currently have Nitto 555r DR's that are a 275/40R 17, but traction will be an issue I know.

Probably upgrade to a MT.

Tube #303 per prochargers parts break down picture. It's the supplied 90deg. Elbow supplied for the bend at the corner by the fuses.
