5.3 w/ z06 cam and BW S400?
Hey guys,
Ive done a ton of searching on this site and am trying to figure out what turbo would work well and be cost effective for my setup.
Im running a stock 5.3 with an 04 z06 cam and LS6 intake. Backed by a th350 and in a foxbody.
The cost of the BW S400 T6 83mm with 1.1 AR from forced inductions is very tempting. Ive done some research and looked at the turbo map and based on my calculations my setup with not even land within the efficiency range of the turbo (AT ALL). But it seems alot of guys are still running them.
Otherwise I can save up a bit more and go for the TC78.
I'll be running regular gas and an ebay FMIC with flipped truck manifolds.
Any help would be much appreciated.

i am running the s475 t6 1.32 on my 6.0 and it has gone 114mph so far in the 1/8th. wouldn't be a great choice for a manual trans roll racer, but for an auto that' can leave with boost it is good.

i have s380 and it works great the bigger the turbo is not always the best if you dont have exhaust voulme or proper camshaft proffiles also i have he s380 on 5.3 in an s10 with 317s and a custom camshft from bullet and the motor made almost 580 on 15 lbs its all in what and how you build the engine i have seen a lot of my friends buy s400 and sure the ARE CAPABLE OF MAKING MORE POWER but the engine just inst there so you will never get the full potential of the turbo charger

Post 93, 355 with 18.x psi made over 900 at the crank. Given is has 30 more cubes and 3 more psi on e85, but it is also non-intercooled. I really think the s480 has good potential on a 5.3 that has a good intake, cams and mildly worked heads. I guess we will see. I am slapping on a s480 96mm turbine on my 5.3 in the next couple months.

Sounds like you're in for some disappointment. Almost 580whp at 6psi on a mild 5.3 with an ebay GT45 is fantasy land.
As for the Oz 964hp 355, theres 80hp in the extra cubes, another 80hp in the extra 3psi, so now your at 800hp at the crank with a 5.3. A good performing converter on the track can show a big loss on the dyno, so 580whp is not off at all for a 5.3 on 15psi.

I talked with forced inductions for a while and I feel comfortable with my s475 I went 83mm 1.10 t6. I was also looking at the tc78 but it would've cost a little more and the backpressure would be terrible with that tiny turbine. With auto cars I feel its always best to go with a big turbine. Good luck

No, he was at almost 500 at the wheels at 6 psi with a much smaller turbo (66mm ebay unit), a much smaller turbine that probably had huge backpressure compared to a 480. If 9 psi with a much larger turbo only yields 80 hp, something is not right. By your calculation above 3 psi is worth 80hp.....
Further he never said he had a big *** converter, but I kind of doubt a 220 hp loss to the wheels unless something is quite wrong. That would be over 25 percent. Even awd autos don't show that much on average.

You think 450whp is close to 580whp?

Isnt the quickest stock bottom end running a TC78? Doesnt seem to be any backpressure issues there...
Anyways I was thinking of ordering the S400SX-75 ETT* 1.10 83mm T6 ($649) from forced inductions.....until I read that thread on them. ugh now where do I get one from?

Remember that the Borg Warner states the size of their turbine wheel based on the inducer. Others use the exducer. So a S475 (advertised as 75/83) and a Precision 7675 (advertised as 7675) have very close wheel sizes. The BW just uses massive housings comparetively.
The TC76 and 78 are too small for anything over 600rwhp and 346 cubes IMO due to the small turbine wheel.

Is this the guy you are talking about? https://ls1tech.com/forums/dynamomet...urbo-6psi.html

Stock LQ4, Custom Cam, Stock Heads, ARP Head studs and Rod Bolts, Precision 76mm, Through 4L80E:
11.5 LBS = 655 RWHP Pump and Torco Mix
8.5 LBS = 585 RWHP Pump Only
Sees 6800 RPM on the REGULAR
Been together for roughly 6k miles total about 4k of which were at 550 RWHP then the last 2k have been somewhere in the upper 500 range. Motor had approx 60k on it when I installed it and boosted it.

What does a bolt on 5.3 make on the dyno? Seems a lot of bolt on LS1 cars are around 330-350 rwhp. I don't see a stock 5.3 making 580 on 6lbs. My motor made 580 on 6lbs with a tc76, but I also made 444rwhp in n/a form. I wish I dyno'd the 76gts at 6lbs but I only dyno'd it at 11.5 lbs and it made 718 rwhp.
