Default Any casting issues with 317's?

I'm just checking on a machine shop rumor before I consider having a set of used heads pressure tested. Long story short, I called a machine shop about having a set of 317's hot tanked, and the guy I talked to said he was pretty sure GM had had a lot of issues with the 6.0L truck heads cracking near one of the center bolt holes.

I'd just buck up for the cash to be sure, but I'm trying not to wrap up a lot of money in "junkyard" heads. I'll already be eating some money on another set of 317's due to a slip while smoothing the combustion chambers (had to have them milled).

Anybody heard anything about this or was he likely mistaken?

My company has 8, 2000 gmc yukon xl with the 5.3L. 3 of them have had the 706 casting heads crack. Maybe that's the truck head your machine shop is talking about. I have never had or read about the 317's having problems.

It was the 5.3 not 6.0 heads. The 317's are fine. By the way I have some for sell. And how much did you have to have milled?

Exactly the info I was looking for guys, thank you.

I've got another set of 317's on my bench, so I'm good, but thanks. I asked them to mill just enough to get rid of the "slip" mark, but they had been slightly milled before as well. CC'd it afterward and came up with 69.25cc, and I'd rather have the full 72.
