5.3 truck manifold for turbo question
im using a 5.3 out of a 2001 silverado
i did a search and didnt see this brought up anywhere
if this question should be in the hybrid/conversion section please feel free to move it.
passenger side worked fine.
on my drivers side , using the truck front accessories mind you
the exhaust manifold flange is hitting the power steering pump.
people are saying they are using ls1 accessories to get around this.
well i dont have 700 -1000$ for another setup of accessories, that x2 what i have in this whole motor
other people are cutting these and re welding them to work
well im not the best welder either, i want to do this as much on my own as possible for financial reasons
what im trying to figure out is if i was to use ls1 exhaust flanges from one of the make your own header kits, they are 3/8 in think
gaskets on both sides of it( one toward block , others toward the manifold. it would easily be a 1/2 inch spacer basically
they are cheap to buy especially in comparison to the other two options
i was wondering if anyone has tried this and if it worked?
they come as a pair and if it was to short i was thinking of welding them both together to have almost an inch spacer which would definatly be long enough , then all id have to buy is some longer bolts.
thoughts ? suggestions? random input telling my im a freaking money saving on a budget genius or a raving looney...
btw if it matters its going into a 67 camaro, side spaces does not look to be a concern from pushing it out

yea i could do that ,
but im trying to do this cheap and easy
that would require a lot more piping then i really want to do
and i really like the look of them both facing the same direction

Just cut the flanges off and pay someone to weld it up. That way it will fit and wont have a bunch of hokey spaced BS. I think by the time you buy these spacers and or diff manifolds it would have been easier/cheaper to do it the right way plus v bands look awesome.

6.0 truck manifold hit the DS a-arm. didn't know the truck 5.3 was that different....
The LS4 is the only (other) stock one that fits afaik. Not everybody likes the routing.
Do some digging on the hybrid forum for the 68-72 nova swaps (same frame).
There are a few pics in there. If you don't find them, I have a few pics at home if you PM me.

I think you might be right about the manifold hitting the ds a ARM to. My adapters are not here yet. I have this in mock up only right now. Trying to get a idea of what piping bends and lengths Im going to need.
Any and all ideas and help is appreciated.
For now u have the drivers side turned up. After hours of digging in the searches here last night i saw a few done this way. I don't know how I feel about how it looks though.
Silver 82. I might do the v bands.
But as stated I'm a horrible welder. I know enough to know not to try. I know the flash trash can break loose and destroy a turbo. That's why I won't even tac weld it myself.
My plan is to mock it all up , all cuts , all the angles, all the bends. Have it 100% how I want it. Then get it all professionally welded.
to do that id like to have the manifolds in place 100% bolted up perfect. That's the best start place that I know of.
