Just dyno'd the turbo 5.3 3rd gen TA and holy hell! **numbers inside**
Hey all. This Sat I finally got on the dyno with my tuner and got my turbo 5.3 3rd gen TA running a bit more boost. Was previously running 5 PSI through a T76 turbo and the car felt quick, but nothing special. Bumped it up to 11 psi and GOD DAMN did it come alive! Turbo is def getting to it's sweet spot now, and this motor isn't even done yet. It should take 13-14 psi no problem on pump gas.
We did a baseline on 5 psi and the car made 402 rwhp. By bumping it up to 11 psi and adding a few degrees of timing from the conservative street tune, it picked up another 160 rwhp and put down final numbers of 563 rwhp and 546 rwtq. The car feels unbelievable on the street, and def made me realize my tires are no longer up to the task, so much sticker ones will be in the future. Anyways, heres the vid of the last and best pull!

Final timing was in the low 20's. I'll have to ask my tuner to get an exact number.
It's staying on this boost for the rest of this season, because honestly with the fall temp around here there is no need for more. Next summer were gonna see what it's got though!

I have a few vids of me messing around with my brothers 114 mph trap 06 GTO, but it's not much of a race. 2 out of 3 runs I was smoking the tires off on a 3rd gear start at 65 mph lol. But when it got traction it was game over pretty fast.

Yes sir, pump gas only. Built to be a street car and thats how it's staying.
As far as engine setup, stock bottom 5.3, unported 317 heads, LS6 cam and valvesprings, ARP head studs, and LS6 intake. Nothing too out of the ordinary. Homebuilt turbo kit with a turbonetics BB T76.
Thanks!! It really does feel great after feeling the power this thing has. Makes the suffering all worth it! BTW, I think I'm ready for you on the spray now
Never been on a scale. Have an in at the local dump, and while not ideal, it should give me around what it weighs. If I had to guess I'd say around stock weight which is 3450. Took weight out but also added some with the turbo and a few other things.
Funny, didn't even notice that while I was there. They're great guys though, and very easy to work with.
It's funny because everyone said not to use the 317's because the car would feel like a turd out of boost...maybe on an auto, but with my T56 and 3.55 gears, the car has more than enough pep around town for my tastes. Plus, who the heck needs tons of low end torque when your putting around town?? Personally, I can't even notice the lower compression, and I love the peace of mind of being able to run more timing and boost over a stock comp motor.
