Where can you find official rules on the stock shortblock record?
Thinking about trying to go after the record but I want to know where I can find official rules? I found the website for the stock short block shootout but looks like that did not even take place. Just want to do it by the book so if I put in the work and the car goes the number I dont want any questions about if the car was legal.
thanks
thanks

Their are no "official" rules other then,
Stock shortblock.
The problem is, you'll have problem crying that opening up ring gaps, or putting new "oem" replacment bearings, and such, etc. are against the "rules" I would agree.
factory shortblock. Cam and north are fair game, IMO.
And yes, skinnies still has it with no tricks, no bearings, no opening up gaps, no rod bolts. STOCK shortblock.

Honestly I'm shocked my crappy pass at 8.65 still holds the record, if no one snags it by next summer I plan on pushing it lower in the 8's with my new car.

IMO, stock crank, rods, and pistons. That is all...
It is crazy that 8.65 still stands as the record. Nothing taken away from skinnies but as much as these stock parts can take....someone with a light chassis make a Super clean pass on some power and there will be some Cars close to 7s.

IMO it should be like said above stock crank, pistons, and rods. IMO a guy should be able to freshen up a core engine, or build one from stock parts using GM rings, bolts, and bearings. These engines are getting harder to find in good shape and harder the last 3 I have bought have been junk. Paid over 1000$ ea for 2 sludged up lq4's, and $400 for a L33 with cracked heads, and spun rod. Deal with the rings a good 100K mile engine has .020'' + of gap, where a super low mile engine is at .014~.016'' and will bite someone. It's really luck of the draw what kind of engine you end up with..

In all honesty unless you really know what you are doing, most are doing a good stock short block a disservice by screwing with it. The factory rings, and bearings are of about the best around. I use factory GM bearings, oil pump, and rings when I can in my forged engine builds that utilise factory crank.

Factory rods, pistons, and crank IMO. I also leave mine untouched. I don't open the engine up at all BUT, I buy them after I get to hear them run, warm up and ensure I have good oil pressure. Once I see it works fine, we let it cool down and pull it on the spot. I have a place I give $500 for a complete engine like this. By the time I sale the starter, pcm, harness, alternator, coil packs, etc.. I end up all most being even. I don't open them up for nothing. I pull the cam and swap it and pull the heads to put on LS9 gaskets, and my patriot gold springs. I do try to find engines that have a 100k or more. This engine had 180,000 miles on it.

I agree with this also but let's use a weight of.....3870lbs.

Seriously though it would be cool if we came out with a set of rules that was somewhat fair to all. Of course I have a daily driver street car so I would like to see the minimum weight higher. I would still be happy with a 3,000 or 3,100 limit in weight. I would probably pull my interior and set it up more like a pro touring car (bare bones) to take a shot at it. Even doing that and removing the inner fender wells I could probably only get it down to 33 or 3400lbs. A lot more people would be interested in it.
What would be really cool is if it had to be done at Holley LS Fest or something like that to be official. This way they could pull it and check it out like the do the factory drags.

LMFAO people arguing about this
and lol about weight, dont drive a tank if you dont want to
Foxes and rx7s have a huge engine bay that is easy to work on and they are light, big whoopie,

No doubt but you don't have anything special. Not all of us want to drive the same car that 100's of others are driving to go fast. Your car is pretty wicked but I would think one of these guys running in the 9's in a 5,000lb truck or 4,000lb chevelle is waaaay more impressive. A whole lot more goes into makeing one of those go fast on a stock bottom end. My .02

I agree with rotary on the weight. If the stock short block record means that much to you, use a lighter platform. This isn't some super-competitive heads-up class with a million rules, it's just stock shortblock. In the end, though, who really cares enough about a meaningless record to build a car specifically for that purpose?
