Default Turbo cooling question.

I just bought an 02 SS with a 76mm turbo on it. I'm still waiting on the book with receipts of modifications done to the car to figure out exactly whats on the car. But I was checking fluids in the car today and I took some pics of a tank that I didn't recognize.

I checked the contents and it was a clear liquid that resembled water, but I wanted some opinions of what the tank may be....

The tank is just under the hood clip

Any ideas?

Air to water intercooler? I honestly don't know much about these setups, so any help would be great.

Take a picture of the bottom of it. Where do the lines coming out of it go? The intercooler looks like its behind that tank.

I'll take another picture of it tomorrow. The radiator is at an angle and the inter-cooler sits right on top of it.

I can see that in the pictures. Did you open the cap on it and stick your finger in there? Whats the fluid look like?

Methanol? Do the lines coming out of it go to a pump and then to the intake pipe?

If it's methanol don't touch it with bare hands it's toxic.

Looks like the reservoir for the air to water intercooler - could be wrong though...

Windshield washer fluid is toxic if touched with bare hands? LOL
It's really not that bad, well, not so bad that you should worry. Wipe hands with rag, go on with life.

Yes but methonal is skin permeable. Windshield washer fluid has small amounts of it, so does brake and carb cleaners. Any chemist will tell you to wear gloves when handling. It's not going to kill you but doesn't mean you should go touching it either. Just handle it like gasoline.

To the OP the tank appears to have fins I don't believe it is a meth res since they are plastic.

Take more pictures from the bottom like mentioned before. We can't really see the lines.

I agree... handle as you would gasoline... irritant to the skin, but hardly toxic through short term dermal exposure, unless you're bathing in it. Also, windshield washer fluid has up to 40-50% concentration of methanol in low freezing point blends (i.e. -30, used in cold climates). Flammable, yes.... but hardly toxic enough to be concerned about through regular use.

<------ Chemist by trade

I'm thinking Air to Water Intercooler Reservoir too, or if it does contain methanol (Windshield Washer Fluid), it may be a tank for a methanol/water injection system. Look for an injection nozzle between the turbo and the intake. However, since this has a MAF, a proper setup would have the nozzle AFTER the MAF and before the IAT sensor. It doesn't look like that's the case here. (IAT is before the MAF in the pics). Sooo... Probably an Air/Water Intercooler Reservoir tank.

as you see there is an intercooler where the factory tank used to be

if methanol on your hands would hurt you i would have been dead 10 years ago.

Ok so I took a pic of what the tank is connected too, I couldn't trace the line any further as it was run into tubing that had multiple lines.

The tank just has a singular line running into this piece...

So MIGHTYMOUSE thinks my windshield washer tank, which I could probably agree with but I'm still not sure, never seen a setup like this so I feel like an idiot. If its the windshield washer tank it has nothing to do with the rest of the car except keeping my windows clean lol

I don't think it is. I know it is. I had that kit 12 years ago.
The thing you are holding is the washer pump.

just had to post to say that im definitely getting the radiator hold down/trim piece you have.

Could you get a better picture of your alternator bracket btw? I apparently have the same turbo kit as you do but have a different bracket. So your alternator looks like it sits lower and cleaner.

You must be those retards that use gasoline to clean their hands when they are done working on cars. I never said it will kill you if you touch it, but if you read the label on anything that is toxic to humans, it says wash off if it comes in contact with skin. You must think you willl get drunk off it if you drink it since it's "alcohol". It IS toxic if ingested or it will make you blind if it don't kill you, anyone with a brain will tell you to try not to get on skin. Congrats on your dumb comment, You dumb ****

I work with this stuff frequently and I "Always" wear gloves, I have gotten it on my hands and im still here to call you a dumb ****, So I know it's not deadly if you touch it and I also know how to handle it as well.
