Default z28 vert*370*twin 76mm*budget/barter build

I've been threatening to start a thread for a while now and decided to finally do it so here it is... the car is my highschool ride and went 11.40 cam only back in 05 when i was 17 or so... I popped the motor the day before cruisin the coast the next year... so the car sat and I flipped flopped ideas from big single and 4l80e to twins and a stick to rear mounts to puttiing everything in my mustang and back to where i am now... I also bought a brand new truck and 800r can am so money has been a bit tight...but the last few months i've really picked up steam in the right direction ... the general run down is tsp 370/stock crank/compstar rods/ -15cc diamonds... ls2 chain... ls7 lifters... ls6 intake and ported throttle body... yada yada... the cam is the same one that was in it before. Its a 228/228 576/576 114lsa that i got from Futral years ago.. I know its not ideal but oh well, its whats in the motor for now... the converter is a ptc that i got for fixing and painting my buddies bedside( I'm a paint and body tech btw) he said it was setup for alot of nitrous and ptc it would stall between 3900 and 4100.. bought a th400 for 400 bucks. Its supposedly built by Neil Chance and has a hughes trans brake. Who knows if it really was but i do know the car it came out of went 5.teens and i saw it working before it was pulled out. The injectors are FIC 1000s that i got used off here and the rails are ebay pieces.

ls9 gaskets with copper spray and arp studs

tranny painted cyber grey met...the block is also this color as will be the suspension and other random things

one of the motor fairly put together... the intake is painted habenero red pearl and the body will be the same color

water pump was lightly blasted and clear coated.. heads are patriot ls6 stage 3 pieces

This is one after i pulled the old motor out.... everything is so dirty and nasty i can't stand it... i don't remember being this sloppy when i was younger.

poor old motor stand doesn't like this heavy bastard being on it..-10 an returns welded in the pan... billet block from ebay for the feed..

this is an old one from way back... the top was replaced with a black one right before it went down..

I have a picture somewhere of the turbos and how they are mounted .. i'll have to find it..they are 76mm on3 units.

what ya'l think

The plan is to build everything myself ... do it as cheap as possible and end up with something mag worthy and dragstrip ready... ive got some cool and unique ideas for it ... I will be keeping a/c as well .... it will be pump gas and meth.. I grabbed the snow meth kit off my bosses lightning for free..

Cool build for sure, good luck with it. What color red are you using, I swear I'm painting my engine the same color right now.

The color is habanero red pearl .. its a newer honda civic color.. as for the everything has been changed ... the door handles, gas lid, and antenna are all shaved ... I'm in the process of building the hood... I'm raising the vented of the hood and making it kind of a mixture of a sunoco and ultraz hood. It will be the same red I used on the motor with some airbrushing up the front....
this is the lightning. I did for my.boss ... the airbrushing will be like this but from the bottom of the bumper up

Nice. I'm using sienna red pearl it's a 98 mitsubishi color, very close to the habanero. The air brushing looks killer BTW.

Your engine looks really nice. Makes me wish I'd done more detail like that while I had mine out.

thanks guys... i'm trying to take my time and do as much detail work as possible... the engine bay has been cut up pretty good to mount the turbos the way i wanted to and to clean everything up.. I also welded everything up and smoothed it all... i'm gonna do some sand blasting and primer it and i'll post a picture of it all ... probably be this weekend..

when i got to the steering I knew I didn't want to go with power for the simple fact of clutter and cleanliness ...and I knew i wasn't gonna pay 650 or better for a manual unit... so i started looking at generic pinto racks and was gonna try to make it work.. while researching I came across a thread on here that had a link to a place that converted stock power racks to manual.... reasearched some more and decided to tackle the job myself... I wish I would have taken some pictures of the process but I've already got it put back together... I'm gonna clean it up and get some paint on it and I'll post some pictures ...

this is what i decided on for placement.. i wanted them in there kinda crazy and not just like everyone else does.. the exhaust points perfect to go through the fender well and out the bottom of the back of the fender..i took some pictures of the mounts that i made but they are on my old lady's phone

I think the placement will look pretty cool once its all done ... I have a twin inlet single outlet intercooler that I bought from a member on here.... I'll put some chedder in the bank next week and maybe buy the axles and diff for the rear... its an 8.8 from an old 4 lug fox body... I painted a bumper cover for it... it has a 3.55 gear that I guess I'll leave in it... I also have bought a currie 9 inch torque arm bracket that I'm going to fab on to it... hopefully it will work out pretty well... I have in my mind how I want to do it..

also I'll probably cut the lower radiator support out and move the whole thing forward some ... and go back with a tube brace instead of the factory lower mount... I may try to keep the radiator swept forward a bit like factory

Yeah Dp will go outside the rail (I hope lol) ..... with all the rain we have gotten and the deer moving this is our busiest time at the body shop, so I haven't had much time to get to my personal shop.....

I still need wastegates... any suggestions on an affordable gate for this setup

personally, i wouldn't cheap out on the gates. That is one item that should be taken more seriously as to it's function in the whole system.

this is how the turbos are mounted to the rails... bolts to the turbo housing

this is what is taking up the majority of my time working on it... I'm going to form a piece of rod and weld it to the lip of the shock tower to make it nice and clean

solid mounts i've had for a while now and never used

shaved the doors and started blocking the car... still need to shave the gas door and finish all the body work.

hard to tell how the hood is going to turn out ... but I think its going to be cool when its done

anyways .... its coming along slowly...work is swamped and its four wheeler riding season so i'm not working on it like I should
