Default Anyone running boost on a iron headed 6.0

Just wondering if I have to swap out the iron heads to run the 8-10lbs of boost in my C10. Just figured if I "only" want 400whp, why spend more than I have to.

I agree...lol, but are they a limiting factor for running boost? By the way those f-body fans work great on the truck.

I dont think they'll be a problem at that kind of boost, may have to run a couple degrees of timing less to help ward of any detonation from the cast heads retaining more heat than the aluminums, if your going to run meth or anything then youl definately be ok IMHO

It's a truck so being heavy isn't an issue...yet, but when the time comes, she will be getting L92's...on the stock truck cam.

Most people run Aluminum for several reasons; less weight, better heat distribution, and repairability. The fact that they are iron has little impact on the amount of boost you can run. The design has more effect. If you take a little time woth a porting tool you can clean them up to reduce the risk of detonation. Iron is stiffer so it is less prone to flexing under high boost. The Buick Grand National's had iron heads and we ran over 28 lbs of boost.

You can get a set of 317's for like 100 bucks though Its worth it for many reasons.

Not to high jack the thread but I have a quick question. If I change out my iron heads for 317's can I use the same pushrods or are the a different lenght?

I have a 80mm on a iron headed 6.0 in my fairmont. It works great there heavy but they work good. I'll change them over to aluminum when I blow the stock gaskets . I like just testing stuff and seeing what it will take but I have alot of backups laying around incase it fails.

Iron heads are weak and crack, don't waste your time, change them

This for the win.

If I am going through the trouble of taking the heads off to port them, then have to get new head gaskets, I might as well do the 317 or L92 swap.
