Store 55 gallon drum of e85 with hand pump installed, or sealed with original cap?
I've got 2 drums of e85 I keep in the garage for convenience and need to know if its safe and ok for fuel quality to store them with my hand pump installed, or if I need to remove it and reseal the barrel with the original plug.

Kinda what I figured on this cast aluminum northern tool hand pump. It does have the traditional gas pump handle at the end of the hose, but all of it seems less air tight than the original cap. Definitely less convenient that way, but I figure I'll only need it once a week or so.

Im planning on keeping a **** ton of e85 stored in my garage as well. I have been told as long as it is sealed its fine. if there is any chance air could get to the fuel i would not do it. water is not good. better safe than sorry. it probably takes less time to put the pump on than it does to run out to fill it up I guess. My nearest is 16 miles away.

Use a metal drum an cap it. remove the pump alcohol sucks up water like a sponge lol. Imo I wouldn't use plastic because alcohol is a solvent (cleaner) an over time will prob start to brake down the plastic barrel an u will end up with **** in your fuel u don't want

This is a honest question. Do you really think that it will do anything to a plastic barrel? Ive always been led to believe that it is better to store it in plastic than metal(because of the way metal reacts to temp changes and creates condinsation) . My buddy runs a sprint car and runs 100% methonal His fuel always comes in thick white plastic barrels. I was thinking of going to get one of his empty barrels and use that to store my E85?

Subscribed. I have dozens of empty 55 gallon plastic drums. I sell, service and repair X-Ray equipment and the chemistry used to develop X-Ray films comes concentrated in the barrels. I wouldn't think e85 would be much more detrimental to plastic then these chemicals are.

yea if u are going to use a plastic drum i would get one that had fuel/used for shipping of fuels or harmful chemicals, imo i dont think all plastic drums are made the same for shipping an holding of fluids etc.
