BOV noise
Just swapped to a Trial 50mm BOV with #2 spring from my smaller stock procharger valve which had a filter attached.
Now when I ease into the throttle, I hear a lot of noise from the air that is escaping. Obviously the valve is held open until the spring pressure is overcome, and then it shuts.
My question, is this normal??
I had never heard it before, so not only does it sound odd (and loud) but also seems somewhat inefficient to have the air bled off at and RPM.

yup. i had a big red on my procharger setup and u can hear air "whoosing" out of it while driving around or if your right on that -1/0 vacuum reading on the boost gauge. soon as u hit boost, the sound disappears and soon as ya come back into vacuum you hear the whooshing sound again.

OK; I just wondered if I had the correct spring. I had never heard it bleeding off during light and medium acceration before, so I though Id better make sure everything was normal.
Sure makes people turn and look
Thanks

The QR is the recirculating unit and didn't really want to hack up my system to run it back into the system.
It will take some getting used to accelerating at part throttle

It really shouldn't hang open. Look on tial sport, and select the right spring for the amount of vacumme you engine pulls. You'll notice the boost comes in sooner when it's actually closed before boost.

I'm running the 2psi spring (which was also recommended)
It's not hanging open; At idle, and when I am accelerating part throttle it is still open from the vaccum it receives, so some of air from the blower is venting outside.

Didn't read that it was a blower car, sorry. I see a lot of blower cars that they hang open, and I don't know the reasoning behind it.
With turbos they should always be closed.

When the proper size spring is used (in turbo applications) it will remain closed at idle and cruising. It will in fact open once you cut throttle, vacumme goes up in the manifold thus pulling a suction on the top of the bov coausing it to crack open, and the remaining boost in the charge pipe is what pushes it open the rest of the way.
That's why when its set up properly when you free rev the engine, when Rpms are coming down the valve will open. Like what you hear with the ricer kids with turbo cars.
