Default Most power on stock ring gaps?

My L33 is already in the car and together. I didn't want to pull the heads and installed the engine as-is. I have a BW S476R with an 83mm turbine on the way. Goal is ~750-800whp later on down the road.

The engine has 70k miles and I didn't open up the ring gaps, so I would assume they are pretty tight. I'll be running 93 with water and meth. I may eventually swap in larger injectors and run E85 since the closest gas station has it for cheaper the regular unleaded.

So how much power have some of you made on stock ring gaps? I've made lots of power on other motors with ring gaps opened to .024-.028 but never contemplated how tight the stock rings are or how much they're going to expand. I know a couple people have had luck with the 150k+ mile motors but the ring gaps are probably .005-.010 more open than mine depending on the mileage. I'm hoping with the water injecton I can keep the rings cool, and I'm running a 4-corner steam vent to help keep heat down.

Success stories, horror stories?

My truck has stock gaps and approx 120k miles. It has seen some pretty big power. I don't dyno it often but I know it's been flogged with 1000+ HP tuneups

Running gas on the truck or E85? E85 is much nicer to stock ring gaps since its cooler and doesn't cause them to expand as much. I'm hoping water/meth will save my rings. Maybe I'll keep the pump gas tune down to around 600whp and then go bigger with race gas, since race gas burns slightly slower.

I popped #7 ring lands after ~1000 miles on a 70k LS1. Stock ring gaps were at .016 when it was torn down. This was on 11 psi with 13* timing. 4 port steam vent as well.

Was going to say Joe, it will depend on how that engine was treated in those 70K miles.

My L33 top ring was at .019 so I opened them to .025". 2nd rings were ,028". Left them alone. 136k miles. Not the best maintenance on it. It was really brown inside. Glad I took it all apart.

The LS1 example above is interesting, but not sure its real relevant. LS1's bust top ring lands with no boost.

My car has seen quite a few long highway pulls (40-140+) with over 750whp. Stock bottom ls1 that has never been out of the car. Its the E85 keeping it alive, thats for sure. Im pretty sure it was a nitrous car before i got it though so maybe that helped loosen things up, who knows! Only 55k on it

Truck runs on gas and lots of meth injection. Up to 15 psi and 800 rwhp I run 91/meth After 16 psi I start mixing in race gas and at 25 psi it's on 85-100% 110 oct.

Nice. I managed a 10.4@144 last night leaving the line from idle(first pass ever on the setup wanted to hook and run clean). I need to get a cage and head back.

My stock ls1 mid upper 800s (est) on 23psi. Judging from it making 775 on 16psi I assume upper 800s. Stock all except cam. Never had a problem. Pump/meth.
