Angry Why do wastegates and BOVs cost so much?

Hey guys... why do I have to spend so much and a wastegate or BOV? Does the price REEEEEEALLY guarantee any better performance or longevity? Some of these brands are as much if not more than the turbos in the setup!!

The simple answer to your question? Because you need them and they can charge what they want

They cost so much because you're looking in the wrong place. Get Emusa stuff, dirt cheap, never had an issue here.

when you have thousands of dollars into your build a 3 to 500 dollar item isnt much

when your a cheap *** like many then a 50 dollar item is fine but dont go complaining when **** fails and wipes a motor

You ALL have very valid points... Okay, now that we've vented...what is a REASONABLE price to pay for a 50mm waste gate? I've seen them from $250-900.

stevieturbo I actually got the sweeeet deal on a NOS Holset H2D from a repair tech that had it sitting in the back of his supply room.

I know it's old tech compared to some the of the new HX and HY turbos but, for $112....I'LL TAKE IT! LOL

I know that HKS, Turbnetics, Greddy, Precision and Turbosmart wastegates have proven themselves on the track, BUT still...

Yes, but you're comparing a mass produced big diesel turbo....that someone had lying and couldnt get rid of and sold to you dirt cheap...

With good quality aftermarket performance items, low volume that are being sold brand new.

I'm sure if you hunt around you could find some old wastegates for cheap prices too. Question is...would you trust them ?

It depends what you are after as well. I was thinking about getting the emusa wastegates as well when I was getting parts. I liked the idea of the vband's and size but a potential quality issue kept me from buying them. I figure if I'm going to have a problem with a Chinese knock off it wasn't going to be on a part that has to work to keep my engine together. With enough searching, I was able to land 2 new f38 tial wastegates for $100 each. Keep looking and I'm sure you will find something.

Stuff is like anything else, you have the products for those who want to pay out the *** and then you have the cheap stuff. Some times you can cut corners sometimes you can't.

This isn't my 1st rodeo in forced induction. I owned a custom 2.4L slug in a 90 240SX with a Toyota CT-26 custom schedule 40 exhaust manifold, 3" full exhaust 38mm wastegate, 4" bar type intercooler...so I'm familiar with the cost.

BUT i'm just saying...I've seen people with the cheapies and the high end wastegates ALL blow them out in just a few passes down the strip. Of course, my build is strictly a street build so paying $600-800+ for a wastegate just isn't making financial sense.

Thanks for the guys that suggested brands that are more in the $185-350 price range that I'm willing to spend....

You can get away with a cheap BOV as their operation is super simple but you will want to spend the money on a good WG. JGS, TiAL, and Turbosmart all make a good product.
