Default Truck manifold bolts?

Anybody know which bolts work best for my truck manifolds?
I am kind of leary of using stock gm bolts since so many break off in the head...
Any ideas?
Also are stock GM manifold gaskets still the best option?

OEM bolts torqued to spec are more than adequate IMO. Broken bolts are usually due to over torquing on installation. I've never broken one or had any trouble. I have had to remove many broken studs. Easiest method by far is to place a nut over the stud and use a mig welder to weld the stud to the nut.

Yup I agree they are good bolts and the weld trick is what I do and seems to work every time.

Or if its flush, weld a washer to the flush part of the bolt, then weld a nut to the washer. This works better than trying to weld to the flush stud through the nut. Works every time.

Never thought of that I will give that a try next time. Thanks

Whatever you do, don't use stainless. They will gall in the head.

I had two that were already broken off and I broke two when trying to remove them, one even turned a couple of times then snapped, they were all pretty tight all the way out. I wouldn't mind finding some ARP bolts or something. Good trick when the stud is broke off flush or slightly recessed into the hole is keep tack welding until you get a little nipple sticking out that you can get a pair of vice grips on, I think the heat from welding helps too, came right out, stole that trick from denmah. Does everyone use the mls exhaust manifold gaskets or just high temp rtv?

Stock bolts and stock used gaskets.
Works perfect.
A little antisieze on the bolts.

Not sure why sometimes you get busted bolts on a JY engine? Either someone busted them off, or the truck just got run so hard expansion and contraction caused a failure? Usually seems to be the end bolts.

I got two out the other day by drilling for an easy out then heating the bolt with acytaline torch. Came right out.

ARP makes a nice stainless stud kit, and always use anti-seize.

I just bought some from Napa, Dorman makes a kit of all 12 bolts. It comes with all the bolts for for like $9 for all of them and they are zinc coated with built in washer. Summit also has the kit for like $7

Just cut some bolts up to make cheap studs.

Lots of good ideas on here. Thanks guys...

FYI if you can't get enough heat with a MIG on a broken stud... A TIG welder will do the trick every time!
I think I will try the made in USA Dorman bolt kit...I bet the stock GM bolts are made overseas!

The bolts dont need to be fancy or strong. If OEM bolts are breaking they are either over tightened, or simply just seized and should have been installed with some anti-seize compound.
