Default Oil pressure dropping when coolant temp reaches 215-225

Hey guys, I have a new engine from Thompson motorsports with about 800 miles on it. Huron speed turbo kit. Makes 879rwhp. Ive noticed on 90+ degree day the engine temps run up to 215-225 after some hard pulls or cruising around town. Im not sure what the oil temp is but the gauge at idle goes down to 25-30psi when its this hot. Driving it comes back up to 40 but at idle I drops down there lower than I would like to see. I have a melling high pressure pump, and running Valvoline vr1 20w-50 oil. Is this normal??

Sounds like the oil is getting hot and thinning out. Bearing clearances will also play a factor into your oil pressure.

Does oil pressure rise when you increase throttle?

I have an oil temp gauge and my oil temps will rise after pulls and it takes a little bit to get them back down. If my coolant temp is 190-200 my oil temps are 210-220ish and will climb with pulls. I have an oil cooler out front to help bring the temps down.

Yes the pressure goes up with throttle. Its only down that low at idle. cruising it comes up to 40 . Cold its more like 60.

my gto does the exact same thing on my built ls1. it has 180k miles on it, so
i'm thinking the bearing tolerances are going south. it will need a rebuild
soon, especially since i've been running the ms3 cam and double springs
since 125k miles.

Well my engine has 800 miles. Sure hope it's not bearings.

Its called viscosity. When your oil heats up it becomes thinner. I bet your oil temps are 250* or more.

I would say this sounds about normal. Is Thompson Motorsports not available to give you more information? I would guess they'd be the best people to ask as they assembled the motor, no?

There phones were busy this morning. Just talked to them, I'm not running a turbo feed restrictor . He said that will help a lot , and I'm currently running vr1 20w-50,l conventional. he recommended switching to vr1 full synthetic.

How much oil pressure you want? 25psi at 1000 rpm or so is good.

You're wasting your time and breath until you know your oil temps. Every turbo car needs to have one.

is it the l33 in your sign? Main bearing clearances open up more on the aluminum blocks once warm than the iron blocks. My ERL 427 does the same thing.

Yea, that's completely normal in my eyes. Oil gets warmed up, thins out a little and pressure drops at low rpm. I have never built an engine, including 1000hp NA engines that didn't do that. Its what oil does. 25 at Idle may not be what it should be on a new engine depending on how they built it, but its not hurting anything.

Run the oil restrictor, You have a huge oil demand feeding the turbos with no restriction. When the oil get hot and thin it is going to loose oil pressure if there is not something to hold it back. This is not un common without restrictors

Just for reference, today I drove my car to work in stop in go traffic with ECTs at 190ish, oil temp sitting right at 205ish. I run 5/40 rotella synthetic, bearings are setup pretty loose at .003.

Idle oil pressure is 40lbs.

I do have restrictors in my turbos (they come with them from turbonetics).

Assuming this is a JB turbo that doesn't call for a restrictor I don't really think telling some one to run an oil restrictor instead of a cooler is a good idea.

Turbonetics recommends a -3 an oil feed for the 7575 and 7875 series (they are only offered in ball bearing).

They come with a pre-installed color marked oil screen, this is not a restrictor.
