Default No Piston Ring Love for the 3.78 in bore???

I just ordered a set of Wiseco 3.78 in bore 2618 forged slugs, and a brand new 5.3 iron block from Summit. The blocks are only $300 right now! and come ready to roll with durabond cam bearings already installed, just have to grab a plug kit for the block.

Anyways, the wiseco rings are plasma-moly and not recommended by wiseco themselves for high boost applications. I called total seal and they quoted me $392 for a set of stainless garpless rings (AP series)...No thanks. I cannot seem to find any other options besides the wiseco and total seal. For reference the ring size is 1/16, 1/16, and 3mm.

Vendors can you help me?

Return those off the shelf pistons and give me a call. I have pistons made for me by wiseco with the XX ring package... which is a steel top/ napier 2nd.

750 gets you pistons, Rings, a set of the S718 tool steel pins and locks.

Call scoggin dickey and order the file fit ap stainless ring set from total seal. They are badass. Ive done a few sets lately and they are top notch. They run 250$ for the set. Reference invoice number 377825. Its a nicer ring set than the xx set.

What are your guys experiences with ring thickness to ring land thickness trade-offs?

These off the shelfers are 1/16 in, 1/16 in, 3 mm.

The Lil John/Wiseco Pistons are 1.0 mm, 1.2 mm, 2.8 mm ring pack (I more than trust John's judgement obviously)

I am not all horny over lower friction from a smaller ring, but I can see the gain in ring land thickness being beneficial and/or moving the top 2 rings down (thicker dome).

I've done three motors with these in the last few months. They are a high tension ring made for a lot of boost.

Yes these are the rings I was quoted $392 for. Its for the AP series gapless total seal tops, something basic for 2nd ring and a high tension oil ring for bottom. Is your $250 price tag for the tops ONLY? Because that sounds about right.

This is for a complete set. Top ring, second ring, and oil rings. These are NOT gapless. They are file to fit. 250$ for the complete set ordered through scoggin dickey. They are ridiculous direct from Total seal. I just measured the stock wiseco shelf pistons and the top ring land is 0.270 and the custom wiseco set that Tooley had made are 0.300 on the top ring land.

This guy said he has no idea what rings he sells. So he contacted Total Seal, and basically came back with what you said. AP stainless (not gapless) ring set and quoted me $264

Your invoice number did not work. So if anyone else is interested in these, my invoice number is 380955 through Scoggin Dicky
