Default Turbonetics 7675 vs Precision 7675

I'm building a 5.3 turbo and have chance of a Turbonetics 7675, ball bearing with a billet wheel. I thought this would be a good match for the 5.3 and have been using the search to find others using this turbo.

I've found mixed opinions with alot of people switching to a 7675 precision and picking up more power. But Im not sure if they started with a Turbonetics with the small 68mm exhaust wheel or using the small 60 series compressor housing.

Anybody have any first hand experience with a 7675 Turbonetics on a 5.3? What power are you making at what psi? Is it comparable to a 7675 precision?

Thanks
Will

If the T'netics is a 7675, then it should be pretty equivalent to the Precision 7675. I dont see gains being made unless they switched from a T'netics 7668 (or even smaller turbine wheel if there is such a thing).

How old are the turbos?

New designs are coming out all the time, all the time getting more efficient and making more power.

If I had a choice I'd go with the precision.

As mad as I am with precision right now (had my 7675 take a dump) the power it makes is undeniable.

Even with all of the bad press they have been getting?

I think most of the people the op is referring to made the leap from the 68mm turbine version. I have the 68mm version now and have been keeping a close eye on how the newer one stacks up. It seems like most who are running it haven't really pushed it to hard as of yet but I could be wrong.

Let's simplify this. If you want ultimate power for the size, go precision. If you are ok with a little less power.....but reasonable longevity.....go ANYTHING else.

Thanks for the replies so far, it does sound like nobodies really pushed a T'netics yet

I've found a compressor map for the t'netics and am using the 'not2fast' calculator to work out where I'll be on the map,

I'm assuming a VE of 70-75% at 6-7k Rpm, would this be a good assumption? If so the turbo will still be pretty efficient.

It depends on the compressor cover. The precision h cover is bigger than your typical TC76 turbonetics cover which is there small cover. It should be fairly comparable to a standard size turbonetics compressor cover though.

What I was haphazardly getting at, was if they're both new or one was older than the other.

Like if the turbonetics has been sitting around since 1995 and the Precision is a year or so old, with how fast technology has changed in turbo technology over the years.

For instance, we loaned one of our GTX series 76mm's (under 2 years old) against the new precision 76, and the precision made almost 200 more to the tire. That's why class racing is so expensive... cost tons of money to stay up with the times.

I understand. The example you've given, that's a big difference in hp for the same size wheel. the t'netics in question is 2 years old i think.

It's amazing how technology changes, in both time and cost.

I was more asking about the reliability of the precision units. That's the only thing that scares me away. I'm just a weekend warrior, budget type guy, not at all a class racer.

The reliability on the T-netics is not great, but the warranty is very good.

I disagree. TN units have held up great in my experiences.
