Default Change from 4L80 to Glide, 8.30@165 first outing

I recently made a change from a 4L80 to a Powerglide. I took the car to the track for the first time yesterday. My best 1/4 mile with the 4L80 was a 9.02@155 and the best 1/8 mile was 5.59@126.

My biggest concern was what to change in the suspension and launch based on the gearing change. I basically left it very similar to the 4L80 to get a baseline.

Needless to say, the first pass was extremely close to my last outing with the 4L80.

4L80 1/8th Mile (ignore the 1/4 stats):

From there just continued to work on the launch for the 2nd and 3rd passes:

Needless to say, I am trilled with my conversion. More details in my build thread:

Great outing!! Will it need a ring and pinion change after picking up 10 mph?

The launch was awesome. I have had the car on the bumper twice. When I let go of the brake on this pass, it had that feeling of going up again. But it ended up just being really casual. It was amazing riding it out with it pulling like that.

It has a 3.25 gear in it. It was at 6800 at 168 and 174 at 7000. So I am good on gear. It would probably be better with a 3.50, but I wanted the 3.25 (at least for now) for the street use.

Cut my best 60' on the third pass with the 1.26. I had been 1.27 once on the 4L80 but I pushed a freeze plug out of the head by the 330'. Otherwise been low 1.30s a few times and many mid to high 1.30's.

Was the boost higher-shouldn't have made that big a diff, 1/8 were close
I wonder if you had slippage in the 80E

Yes, the only true comparison would have been my last 1/8 mile with the 80. I know there was some slip with it, and always ran the 80 unlocked at the track.

80E: Launch at 9psi, and I think it was 24psi down track. No ramp, just instant full boost.
1.32 60', 5.59@126 to the 1/8th.

Glide: Launch at 9psi, and I believe this was 24psi down track as well (same dome pressure target). No ramp, just instant full boost.
1.34 60', 5.55@127 to the 1/8th.

After the first pass, I added RPM to the launch which increased the boost on the launch as well as upped the boost down track. Did the same for the third pass.

I didn't intend the thread to think the car went from 9.02 to 8.30 because of the transmission change but mostly went from those times during the first outing with the transmission. I was steadily getting the 4L80 dialed in with the launch but it was very simple to get the Glide dialed in.

Great job! You have to be impressed with those results. Not sure about your car, but the glide drives fine for me on the street. I've always run TH400's and was worried the glide would be a pig driving around but it actually drives very nice.

I put a glide/GV OD in my car with a 3:08 rear gear 26" tire and loved it. Car was extremely smooth on the street and preformed amazing @WOT at any RPM.

I heard from a few that I would not like the 1.80/3.25's on the street. Don't mind it one bit for the little bit I used it so far.

Great results, but just for informative purposes, it would be nice to know torque converter details on both setups. Either way, being able to drive to the grocery store in an 8 second ride is a boast few can make.
