Default 240Z LS3, 8 second turbo build.

Hi guys, been doing some searching and reading around and there are lots of cool builds here on this site. Thought I would take a moment to share my build with all of you.

Started out as an all motor high compression build, but turned into turbo build after just after one track session. So things came back apart and the car was built a little more.

Quick run down,
240Z
10 point chromoly certified chassis
back half setup with 4 link
35 spline 9 inch with 3.25 gears
LS3 build with Eagle rods and JE pistons, custom cam by Martin, sheetmetal intake, Billet S480 with A/W intercooler
was supposed to be a driver, so its got a jakes stage 3 kit in the 4l80e tranny, D3 brake and jakes 5000 triple disc billet converter
Car is running an MS3Pro and Microsquirt for tranny control
The driveshaft shop set me up with a Carbon shaft as well
90/10 struts up front with 14 inch 125lb springs and QA1 singles out back with 130lb springs

Worked on the combo all summer and finally after a sway bar install I was able to muster a semi clean 8.53@167.6 mph 1/4 mile pass

Have some winter upgrades planned and shooting for 140mph in the 1/8th mile next year

Here are some pics of the build, Enjoy

I could post some pics of the build details tonight if you would like. I was able to modify the front strut I accept a 3rd gen fbody drag strut. I'm proud to say that from the machine work on the engine and the paint and body that billybob customs did, I did this whole car myself in my 2 car garage. Took 9 months from start to race when all motor and 4 more months to redo the motor for the turbo and all that install stuff

I've set the engine back about 4 inches after notching the firewall. Which I'm learning might have not of been the best thing as the nose is hard to keep down. It may need some wheelie bars for safety

The fun parts are always late Sunday afternoons when your friends come over and they might see things a different way than I had been building throwing a wrench into all my plans!!!

Those are some nifty headers. I do love a Z-car with an LS in it.

Very nice build. I'd like to see the progress pics. Looks like that thing gets a little hairy on the top end.

Nice setup. Should have kept the motor up front though! These ******* love to wheelie with the SRA.

Great looking setup. I bought one of your intakes a couple years ago and it was gorgeous.

I liked the room moving the motor back gave me for turbo piping and placement, and didn't think moving the engine back would cause the wheels up issue! Ill play with the 4 link and attitude this year along with front spring rates

Car is a little wiggly out the top, and want to try some pro bracket raidals next year to cure that

Sorry for links, photobucket is being dumb

That's badass Nate! I bet that rail dragster was thinking..... "WTF JUST HAPPENED??????"

What boost was that 8 second pass at and what does the car weigh in at? Seems like it would be sub 3k raceweight from looking at the pictures.

Thankyou. I found a lot of this build was depicted by near future events or some prior thinking of knowing what was going in, kinda working a few steps ahead while working behind and not being afraid to change what was already done to make life easier somewhere else

Not only did the rail, but lots of other people came up after I got back asking the same thing!!!

This pass was the first good pass all year but being fresh on bias plys I was unsure of the two step settings needed so I went in conservative. Launch was at 3500 leaving at 7psi ramping to 17 in first, if you listen to the video the 2-3 shift was short from a tps dip and it coming out of rpm based upshifting, and in high gear is averaging 18.5psi with injector duty cycle near 90% with 1680cc's of fuel running E65. Air temps are incredible leaving at 77*, dropping to 73* and going out the big end at 85*

Race weight is 2750 right now. I'd like to go on about 100lb diet this winter

Very impressive. Do you think you are running out of injector or pump?

An easy way to lose a ton of weight right away is sell the 4L80E trans and buy a good Glide. With a 3.25 gear there shouldn't be too much reason to need an overdrive! I didn't think I would care for my glide because I have always run a TH400, but I really love it.

Watched you make a few hits at PIR this last summer. I'm Sean's friend Ron.
I was glad you were driving it, not me!

Congrats on the bests. Was that at Bremerton?

Afr's are still on the rich side, so I think it's injector first and pumps are not to far behind. I'm upgrading to a 4303 over the winter

I've thought about a glide, it's been a lot work and money getting this 80e in the car I'll run it one more season. And I would need a stout Glide to handle the power

This was at Bremerton. Last race day of the season so track prep was killer! Your right about street legal drag prep at Portland! That track will make me a better driver for sure

If you look at ForceFed86, he's run a stock glide in his car since 2012 and just now broke it. I would think y'all would be similar in weight and he's been 8.7 @ 159? I would still put a good glide in it, but it's good to see in stock form in a light car they can take some abuse!

I run a single 4303 right now but planning on putting a Walbro 450 in the tank as the main pump and have the 4303 kick on under boost to be safe.

I sold my Jakes stage 3 4L80 trans and converter and bought a new BTE Top Sportsman glide. Talk to the owner Brandon if you have questions or decide to order one. Amazing customer service and really nice guy. It is an SFI case and good for up to 2400hp. It even came with fluid, dipstick, overflow tank, -6 case fittings and even a Strange yoke for $3600. Awesome deal and working great so far!

That Looks like a nice tranny. Did your stage 3 sell quick? That's what mine is with a D3 brake

Can we get a Glide as the same length as an 80e? I have a carbon shaft in my car
