i suggest goin for the lt1 my brother is putting an lt1 with a procharger in his 97 camaro and goin for about 750 i think.they are also more rare so yours wont be so much like everybody elses it will stand out and being cast iron versus aluminum (ls1) they can also hold more power.

I wouldn;t really go as far as saying they hold more power... and we will be far from getting to the point of a block having problems.
If you want to make that kind of power, you will be dropping some cash. Im sure your just massaging you lil fantasys right now (just sounds that way). But it never hurts to learn.
The fuel system is going to have to be completly redone. What you do is up to you. I would personaly recommend a sumped tank and big external pump (and no whining about the external pumps sound. who cares? ). Better be ready to really dish out for a capable fuel system. And dont forget the injectors in that mix either.
The bottom end will have to be a nice forged setup of course. look to spend $1700-2000 easy on a strong 355-383 rotating assembly.
Figure out if you are staying small cubes or big cubes.
I would go with LT4 afr heads and a single plane intake conversion (and that is probly $1500 just for the intake conversion).
Lets talk.... $2000 for bottom end.... $2000 for heads.... $3000 for NICE turbo setup (DYI of course)..... $1500 for intake conversion..... then $$$$$ for fuel system.
THen you have to get it tuned. ON top of that lets add in the blew up rear ($2500) and a nice mean tranny that you will need to replace the trans you blew up within the first hour of driving it. Make sure you take into account a nice driveline will be needed. Also. With this kind of power do you have the appropriate suspension already? At least sub frame connectors and a full roll cage (need to REALLY stiffen that lil car up)
THis is all for a LT1 setup and you already have the LT1.... you really want to start talking LS1??? Hope you have deep pockets my friend

BUt do everything yourself and see where you end up after $15000 is spent.
amke sure you have wiggle room for those lil exspenses you never see coming

Maybe I'm jaded, but I say LT1. A stock block LT1 has been 8.0 at 170 mph and I don't think any stock block LS1's have been that fast. You can upgrade the LS1 to a C5R block for a cool $7k which is half your budget.
Every major LS1 engine part is $200 - $300 more expensive than equivalent LT1 parts.
The LS1's do seem to have a 50 hp advantage over the LT1 mod for mod, but that advantage seems to fade away when a turbocharger is added. One guy made 990 rwhp with a T76 on a 355 LT1. Has anyone beat that with an LS1?
Also, this may seem crazy, but the LT1 has a nice spot for a turbocharger in the same location where Vortech, ATI, and Powerdyne put their superchargers. When looking under the hood of an LS1 car, there aren't any open areas available like that. It seems like every turbo on an LS1 car requires removal or relocation of some component like the cooling fans, radiator, alternator, or A/C compressor.
