Hmm, I am in similar setup. I am redoing/welding my i/c piping and would like to know what paint to use.

I have heard somewhere that painting the intercooler would harm heat transfer out of it. Im not sure but maybe an expert can verify it.

well the expert has arrived, as long as it is a very thin coating there should be no differences in heat transfer. if you go putting 6 coats on thats where you get in trouble......

I don't think that black would be a good choice either. We all know black absorbs the most heat and I don't think that's what you'd want for an intercooler. You want the ic pipes idealy to be as cool as possible. Black would be like a magnet for engine bay heat. Try white or get it ceramic coated. That guy with the sts system had really good results with painting his exhaust white. Just a thought, every little bit helps.

black absorbs the most amount of heat from sunlight. i dont think rad paint would really be that bad if youre really set on painting it.

I painted the front of my I/C and all of the piping with Ace Hardware flat black. My IATs run +- 10° over ambient.

I am powdercoating all of my IC piping black along with my Procharger brackets and a few other things, but i do not intend to paint my IC. Chances are I would mess it up and then it would look like crap... haha

I had all my IC piping ceramic coated with the matte grey finish. For the IC, I painted the tanks with Eastwood self-etching primer and then their Chassis Black. For the front side of the IC, I misted on Eastwood Radiator Paint at an angle so it did not penetrate the fins hardly at all, but it did turn the front face black. This shot makes the IC look crooked, but it's the angle - the core is parallel to the radiator core:

I also misted the front of the Griffin racing radiator black (not shown in this pic), to keep the behind-the-grill area low key on my sleeper.

You put such a small amount of paint on I can't imagine it having much of an effect on temps. My Manifold Air Temps under boost are like a max of 20 over ambient.

Ditto...phone pic so quality is not very good but you get the idea. Only front and sides of IC done. Top, bottom and rear not painted.
