Default Talk about a long day at the track..

I can say now that I have never had a roll cage I installed not pass NHRA cert, even though this is the only one I ever did lol. They were doing chassies certs at alocal track today so i figured I'd get it done.

Also got my first 1.29 60' tonight, shame my hand slipped off the shifter and I didnt put it in 2nd Car is going to 60 like a **** when it cools off. Car weighed in at 3470 today, thats 150lbs heavier then it was last year - sucks.

I wasnt trying for any new bests, I have been fooling with the suspension and tuning to get the 60's down since its too hot for this to make any power. It was hotter then hell out but I still ran a 6.09 and 6.10-6.14 all day with 1.29-1.32 60 foots, not bad in this weather..

I also made seven passes in three hours so now my NHRA license passes are done and signed off, just have to mail it in.

Just need to wait for some cooler weather now, or add another 100hp

Didnt get a lot of vids today but here is one of a 1.309 60 foot. DA was around 3500' today, was a rough day but I managed to get my 60 foots down from hot weather 1.4s a couple weks ago to very low 1.3s thanks to the trans brake, 2 step and a little chassis tweaking.

Nice 60's kp. Tha car leaves like a damn botle rocket. Curious though, why did you have to make the 7 passes for cert. What are they checking for? I dont know anything about NHRA certs

Had to make the seven passes to get a NHRA license, really only had to make six runs but I screwed up the one with the best 60 foot. To get the cage certified all that takes is 15 minutes and 75 bucks. That was the reason I went to the track, I hate running when its that hot/humid out but I towed the car 130 miles to a dragstrip I figured I'd run it and get the license passes in..

Do you have to have the cert to run 9's, eerrrr let me rephrase that. For tracks to allow you to run into the single digits?

There was a local that got into a deep 9 sec car (not his) but because he didn't have a cert they didn't let him drive.

Some do and some dont, most of the time the tech guys wouldnt even look at my car since it looked like the zillion other 12-13 second f-bodies out there. Now that they see the cage they look over the car a lot better, main reason I did it was I may run a regular series next year and most tracks they run at check everything + you need a comp license.

Plus IHRA tracks dont need a cage cert until 8.99 but you still ned a license at 9.99..

I would like to get 100lbs off it, its right on the edge of the 'race car' thing now. I dont know if just gutting and running the number or leaving it as it sits is the best thing to do. Its the old fast street car vs slow race debate

Two step really worked well on my car since my converter was made for a foot brake, it would flash about 5500 on the brake with 7psi but the 60's werent that great. With the 2 step at 3500 it works very well, so I can have great 60 foots off the footbrake or with it for pro tree stuff. Worked out nice..

Jeeeez, that thing is fast! I can only dream.......

What do you think I should expect from my car? I'm "detuned" to 730 rwhp, and that was at an ambient temp of around 60-65 degrees. I won't go to the track in hot weather, so I'd say I'll be making 700 rwhp when I go, in case the DA isn't very good. 4L60E (built, hopefully built strong enough!), 3.73 geared 12 bolt, car hooked before, hopefully still will, race weight of about 3800 lbs. (I know, its heavy, it might get lighter before I go)

My dyno chart looks good, the second the car goes WOT, HP goes above 500 and climbs really fast.

Traction will be the issue, the car gained a good 180 lbs., all on the front end. (iron block, D1SC, fmic, pipes, etc.)

Whatcha think? I put alot of value on your opinion since you have alot of experience with the subject!

Cant say really, my best advice is go try it. Mostly depends on your 60 foot, I dont ever post my dyno numbers beacuse they look bad compared to all you big HP guys

I guess I'm wondering what it *should* run with that kind of power? Like what is the potential? I know actual track times may vary, and who knows how its gonna hook (or not) now. Last year I was running low-mid 1.5 short times on motor, going 11.5's at 116. I hope to cut some 1.4x's off the footbrake, but even if 1.5 is the best it'll do, I would still think low 10's could happen.

It SHOULD run 140mph in the 1/4 @ 3800lbs if its making 700rwhp. 140mph should be a 9.60-70 or so. You will need some 1.35 or so 60's to be there.

Best thing to do is go and see what it runs

Thats the plan, probably a little later on as the weather cools down. Honestly, I'd be happy at 9.99, hell I'd be thrilled! I just don't know how well the drivetrain will handle a 1.3 60', I don't have a spool and the tranny is, well, a 4L60E. If I can't get the car to run cool with the A/C on I'm gonna remove it and probably the heat as well, and try to find a few more lbs. to take out of it. If I can, I might have a buddy drive it who knows what he's doing, as in a skinny buddy. If I could get down to 3400-3500 lbs I think high 9's would be more realistic.

Thanks for the insight, we'll see what happens!

I hate the hot weather, supercharged a2a intercooled cars are not the best in hot weather at the dragstrip thats for sure.

I'm waiting for the cooler weather myself

kp, you've really got the hook factor figured out. 5's will come quick.....followed by 8's. Congrats!

That's funny. Last week when I went to the track the tech guy asked me how fast I run. I told him I hope to get in the 11's. He didn't even ask me to open my hood! lol...

You 60's are making me . That's awsome!

Honestly for a street driven car most tracks dont even look, you can probably get away with an 8 second car without a cage at a lot of tracks. It sort of limits your actvities though if you like to race a lot, now i can go run the car anywhere without having to worry about getting asked to slow down or get the boot. No big deal at a local track but if you tow 500 miles, make one pass and get thrown out it kinda sucks.
