Default Navy David SS ????

Any results from the Labor Day weekend? I know you wanted to crank the boost and let her rip!? Just curious, I hoped to see a new "8-second" thread from you!

The track was great, stuck like a *****. A few rain delays, but nothing serious. Blew out the Moser 12-bolt. Took it apart this today. Just the ring/pinion. Already order a new set, will be here by Friday 9/8. Next track date 9/17.

Finally got the SS consistently hooking. 1.37 (on new Hoosiers); 2nd run a 1.33; 3rd 1.32 (new best). 3rd run felt great - 5.80 1/8 at 118.9; but time was down a little more than expected - 9.18 at 146. Thought it should have been better. After the stripe, on my slow down, a lot of "crunch". Been there, done that, knew right off it was the ring gear. I do it right though - 17 teeth (to include 3 complete teeth) are gone.

I know the winter project - need some recommendation on 9", 40spline, spooled, gun drilled, 5/8 studs, narrowed 2" each side, mini tubed. The Moser has been great for me. It has lasted a lot of **** from me. Still in great shape. I'll be selling it this winter some time.

Next trend will be an 8 second one. Come hell or high-water. So close. --- Sunday was to be the day for the boost, obviously couldn't run

Oh yea. It had better be. I'll be racing it on the 17th. Only minor ring and pinion swap. Should be pushing the SS into the 8's.

I just can't believe it has taken me this long to get into the 8's. No one has driven the SS down the strip except me in the 6+years of racing this car -- and good bet no one else will .

Will I sell it. AFTER race season is done, yep. I will be as good if not better than new (Moser 12-bolt; 33 spline; spooled; 3.73 gears (but have a great set of 4.30); 4 carrier)

Sucks you broke it, but next time out I'm sure it will work out and run some 8's! Was the 12-bolt the original setup from Moser? Just curious, I grenaded mine at one of the Thunder Shootouts a few years ago. But I think it was do to the poor setup from Moser, I don't really make any amazing power just yet that would break it. Ever since I setup my own rearend it has been taking the abuse fine.

1st set of 4.30 3 years ago was, but the shop set up another 4.30 set after the 1st set broke (installed wrong). No problem with that set for 2 years. Changed to 3.73 last year, no problems until we decided to challenge the gears capabilty. We have a good idea now what a 12-bolt gear will hold on launch, with great traction and tires/suspension that will put the hp to the pavement.

We'll try it again on the 17th

Very nice runs. Your car moved out very well. You need to up and talk. Did see where you pitted. I have a spot on the 2nd row. Yep, the 17th. Stop by and good luck with your quest.

David

Edit: just read through your mods... very impressive. Actually very similar to mine - well prior to this build. Best on mine was 10.08 with 200. Watch out for old "wild Bill" he'll kick you off running without a cage

I was hoping you took the pressure off and got into the 8's so I could accept my defeat lol...we went 9.doh again on mid 1.4's...had a 1.37 but had to lift and get back on it. I did however win the ls1tech outlaw class (lucky lucky) and won a grand so it wasn't all that bad of a weekend.

5.82 123 to the 1/8th and blew off an intercooler pipe at like 1200 feet. Was doing 143 to the 1000' and coasted to a 9.14 at 141. DOH!

Congrats. Good on you. You beat some great cars. Sounds like you were on a 8 second run yourself. I was planning on making it there, but gas for truck was a bit much. Thank god I didn't go. I am sure that the rear end would have given out there - it would have just really pissed me off. It was bad enough sitting at our track broke - nothing that a few beers didn't cure .

3.73 Richmond. This is the only one that I can get for a 4 chan rear-end. I will be going to some type of 9" this winter and move down to either 3.2-3.5 series gear.

Will do. Weather up here has been kind of crazy. Should still be in the 80's, but highs have been in the mid-60's, with rain. Next weekend is suppose to be in the mid-70s and clear. All I need is a good track. We make our own weather

New 3.73's are at the shop. Joey will set them up sometime next week. We'll be at the track 16-17 Sept. One pass to break them in, and than we'll see

Just take care of yourself over there.

David

Hey David.... wouldn't a 35 spline 9" be more then enough? I have never met someone that needed more than that.
