Has anyone kaboom'd driveline on the dyno?
Well im making a purchase here. I am running on stock motor, however i know my trans wont even be able to hold that power for long being a 4l60-e..... Anyway... wondering if theres anyway i could blow the trans or 10 bolt on the dyno? I doubt the rear as its not like a launch, however, i'm not sure really how a trans goes.... Should i be worried about it on the dyno or will it be fine with the way dyno runs go? Thanks!

I've never blown a rear end on the dyno, same with an auto trans. Worst that could happen is it could start slipping like mad and burn up the clutches. Last year with my GT47-88 combo I sheared every tooth off of 4th gear in a viper T56 from too much torque, but I've never had a catastrohphic failure of an auto.

We've had a bunch of stuff blow on the dyno.Rear ends, tranny's,motor's ect. but it was on pretty powerfull vehicles.
You DO NOT want a tranny to blow!!!! It shoot's parts everywhere
This is the main reason I hate seeing above ground dyno's.A tranny blowing could kill the person next to the dyno.

Geez, well tune will be at W2W, they are pretty experienced. Im pretty sure the rear will be fine and the engine as they are pretty goodwith the tunes, going conservative, only thing i'm worried about is the trans... what really kills the trans? Lets hear a vote of how people think my stuff will hold with 500 rwhp turbo kit of my 99 stock Auto Trans Am, lol.

Have Rodney build that 4l60 and put it back in there. I've seen several of his 4l60's in 700+HP Vettes running 115+ in the 1/8th and not have problems. Daves car is on year two now I believe and he's a weekly regular at the track and has logged quite a bit of dyno time as well.

Typically you are not going to have as much stress on you car on the dyno as you would at the drag strip. Dyno pulls are done from a rolling speed so there isn't the shock on the drivetrain that you have launching the car or shifting the car. I think you'll be fine. I've yet to see an auto car give up the tranny on the dyno. Seen a couple of manuals sheer off parts due to the torque but in most cases the stock trans will slip really badly before you have parts break.

ok cool stuff, thanks! I just basically wanted info on how dyno runs go and what effects the auto trans the most i know, wrong forum, but my question is done so i mise well ask so i dont have to start another thread..... what is it really that kills it? Traction out of the hole? boosting threw shifts? downshifts? high speeds? I know all may be a factor, but whats the biggest hurt?

Best I can tell you is that the clutches in your trans dont have enough bite to hold all the torque that is being put on them and the will slip. The slipping causes a rapid heat build up that can easily cause other parts ( gears, shafts, sprags ect) to break.
Im by no means an auto tranny expert though. Im sure someone else on here could give you a more detailed answer.

I witnessed a customers truck break a drive shaft. It twisted it like a pretzel and threw it to the other side of the dyno, thank god it didnt hurt anyone. It was a all motor pull, he had nitrous too.
Really if something is going to break, its going to be on the street or the track.

i was with a friend at futralls with his 69 nova with a big block. it was ok until it hit 515 at the rear wheel and the hp was still climbing when the rearend went and took the trans with it also. bell housing broke and it twisted in the chassis pieces were every where trans fluid, rear end fluid and parts.

dude ull be fine.relax.its not and everyday thing that something will break like that.u said W2W is doing the tuning,im sure theyre competant enough to know when to back off if theres a problem.and like stated the car is going from a roll and if its on a dynojet alot less load than on the street/track.i would like to know after a year of "what if,whats the best" threads what you decided to go with.
