So I ordered the low-profile Spal 9" puller 30100452 to add to my ATI shroud...

Looks nice. It's actually about 9 3/4" across with the enclosure, about 1 3/4" deep in the center. Looks like it will be a tight fit getting it onto the shroud next to the 16", anyone got pics of theirs ?

I shoved it in there behind the PS cooler where it would fit and drew some measurements onto the shroud with a marker. Then I started eyeballing how it would go in/come out with two fans on the shroud...

After mounting the second fan, did you put the shroud back in from the top or from the bottom ? Looks like that will be a tight fit as well with the blower/ps cooler/wiring/crap in the way and trying not to damage the fins on the radiator, and I'm measuring only a very small amount of clearance in front of the PS cooler. What all did you have to remove to get it installed, if anything ?

Looks like the 9" goes off the left side of the shroud ?

I have it mocked up the best way I can get it to fit, the bolt at the upper left corner of the 9" fan will also hold the two pieces of the shroud together.

The "X" to the right of the 9" fan will be another bolt holding the two pieces of the shroud together to stabilize it.

I'm a little worried about clearance where the fan protrudes from the shroud. See pics below... I will flip the ring clamp around the other way for more room, but I want to make sure this thing fits before I start hacking up my shroud. Looks like the blower may have to come out to put the fans back in...

Did you need to remove the blower head unit when you put the fans back in ?

I flipped that ring clamp around to make more room and slipped the radiator hose out about another 1/8" to push the PS cooler back for clearance. I think it will fit... I am going to pull the blower in the morning and put the fans in and put the blower back on to make sure it will all fit before I chop my shroud for the new fan.

I just removed the compressor housing on mine and went in from the bottom. Much easier than removing the blower itself.

Thanks for the tip, that is a lot easier than removing the blower !

I mocked it up this morning, looks like it will fit ! I dremeled down the 9" fan mounting plastic and edges down flush with the fan housing on the bottom of the fan and the left outside of the fan housing where it protrudes to ensure max clearance.

I had to shove the radiator as far forward on the bottom as I could, it just barely clears the compressor housing on the blower. Inlet hat fits fine with plenty of clearance. Looks like I will also have plenty of clearance between the fan and the PS cooler.

I'll be pulling it back out this morning to trim the shroud for the fan, mount it and wire it up.

Got it all mounted and wired. For the record, the blue wire is the hot wire and the black is the ground. It's on its way in, more pics to come when its complete.

man good job on this,were did you get the Spal fan,and how much did it cost, iv been wacthing this borad for a little bit and it seem that this is the way to go if you want an LS1 to run cool, so ill will be gettig one when i get home from Iraq, so info on the fan would be great! thanks and good wright up let us know how much cooler your car runs

Spal has a website with a dealer locator, I got mine at a local retail place called "ORW/Off Road Warehouse". It was about $70 for the fan.

I will be getting my first shipment of these fans in this week, and will add them to my website. We installed one for a customer from El Paso, Texas earlier this year, and we are doing another install with using one this week. Bob

May have to do this. But hopefully it will clear the SDCE tensioner. Rob, just curious why you didn't mount the fan a bit higher?

I think the other guy who had the SDCE setup said this one cleared but the other higher-profile 9" Spal fan did not.

If you look at the pic below, since the fan protrudes off the left side of the shroud it has to be mounted a little low to clear the radiator hose that is directly below the top driver side hanger on the shroud.

You have to position the fan low enough to clear that hose but high enough to clear the blower.

I logged a couple of scans yesterday. I haven't had a chance to log it on a long drive or sitting in traffic yet.

My one-way trip to/from work is about 6 miles.

From a cold start driving to work temp got up to ~185. Temps seemed to rise more slowly.

A short time later I made a second log from work->home starting with ECT about 140 it never got above 187, even letting it idle for a while in the driveway after I got home.

I will do some more scanning and see how hot it will get with the new fan when sitting in traffic for longer periods.

I added the Ignition Voltage PID to my scan and did notice that when the fans come on the voltage drops to ~12.2 at the lowest point in the log. Starting out the voltage is ~13.1. If I had the bottle heater on and was blasting the stereo it would probably drop even lower at idle, so I went ahead and put a 200amp alternator on order for good measure.

Fans are set to on at 160, off at 155. I have the 160 thermostat. I just checked the fan settings last night and didn't realize they were set to come on at 160. I may bump them up to on at 170 off at 165. What are yours set to ?

I got the alternator from 4alterstart.com, suggested in the Electronics forum - $299 bucks. I also went with a bigger gauge alt->battery cable.

Damn, your fans must run all the time.

I used to have them set @ 185/180 but they ran all the time. Its set to 195/190 now. Even with that setting they are almost always on.

May have to check that alt out. With two fans, EWP and stereo. I may need it.

I've had the 9" spal sitting on my work bench for about a month. With the thicker LG radiator I'm doubtfull it will fit. Tends to push the steering cooler too far back.

Has anyone tried sealing up the gaps between the shroud and radiator with some tape? After looking it over, I would be surprised if 20% airflow is bypassing the radiator and entering through these gaps on its way to the fan.

Are you setting up the fans for low and high speed like OEM?

I set them both up to come on at the same time. I guess I could run them hi/low but I'd prefer them both to be on/off at the same time.

I put the edges of a stripped A/C condenser back in the car to seal the gap that is there with it removed. (We just cut out the entire middle of it). ...and yeah I've always kinda wondered how much more effective the shroud would be if it were more completely sealed.
